I'm pretty sure I could provide a vastly larger list of players rumoured to leave who did leave. Even more definitive if you were to narrow it down to players rumoured to leave,met with clubs in the Eastern states and then left.

None of those guys you listed ever gave any indication they wanted to be anywhere else or toured other clubs. Even Weller didn't really give any indication or meet with GC until trade time.

These players wanting to leave are far more likely than not at this point.

Jason, great points you raised. The post season merry-go-round, has been happening for years. Freo, a destination club, haven’t had the turmoil like this year, to get tongues wagging. If we happened to lose players, then I’d say the ledger is balanced having had players like Wilson, Hamling, Hill come back. Opinions of why things happened is just the nature of the industry. I say good luck to those who leave.

Destination club we are not. When we were successful we showed signs of being able to lure some reasonable WA talent home but this will be harder and harder to sell.
If I was a young bloke with exceptional talent with a burning desire to return to WA I think West Coast would have all the running just now.
There is a situation arising right now where even local talent is finding the lure of Melbourne enticing. As an adventurous young man there is a lot to like about Melbourne. It is a vibrant and energetic city with lots to do. It is the centre of the AFL world with the opportunity to play regularly at the MCG. Healy and Brownattempted to address this with Gillon last night on On the Couch. Lowly clubs are being forced to pay overs for players earlier than they deserve to stop the likes of Hawthorn, Geelong and Collingwood circling.
I think it needs to be addressed by the AFL but I don’t pretend to know how. Despite this we better get very competitive very soon if we are going to stand any chance of avoiding bleeding our talent.
I hope I am not being too pessimistic but I can see a future in which we are the next club having the AFL step in to assist in our recovery.

The only thing that surprised me about all that was that he stopped at Brisbane, I'm astonished that he didn't head for London or Glasgow, you know, a little bit further away.

West Coast are about to lose Gaff and Lycett. Sam Mitchell is off to Melbourne. Last year 2 of Simmo’s right hand man in Cox and Longmuir left. There’s something just not right with the exodus of big names.
