1st and 2nd round draft pick, plus a mid tier player at least to start the talking. Anything less offered, and they are having a lend of us.

It’s been said before, top 10 draft picks, and this draft will give us 4, means sweet FA, if the likes of Carlton, Suns, Brisbane and GWS, are proof. GWS was given everything you could imagine and I once thought they’d be a powerhouse. It’s turning out to be the AFL biggest balls up, and you can throw the Suns in that basket.

As Neale is out of contract at end of 2019, surely now is a good time to sit down with him and offer him a bumper contract offer that would turn his purple blood black.

Your ramblings regarding top draft picks meaning nothing are just ridiculous Jezza and prove you will spin anything to suit your agenda, similar to the blokes running our club.

Top draft picks mean a lot and gain you access to the elite talent in the country. There are many factors that determine whether they are able to flourish and excel at AFL level but the draft is far from a lottery and it's always better to have a shot at a wider and more talented pool of kids.

Did your scouts pick up the right kid? Were they targeting specific types of players to fill gaps? Were they worried about someone else grabbing a kid so went early? Were their plans ruined by another club and they were forced to scramble? How will the kid react to being at their club? How well does the club develop talent? Are the kids carrying any injuries? Did they pick up an injury that drastically effects their development? What other outside factors may influence the player? Do they play/interact well with their teammates? Their coaches/support staff? How is the club travelling on field? Off field? As well as a whole host of other factors that may effect the outcome of a pick.

How high picks are used and whether they are maintained on the list depends on the club but writing off high draft picks as unimportant and meaningless is just plain dumb. Hawthorn used their's perfectly a little over a decade ago and are still reaping the benefits, able to recycle those high picks for more good picks as their careers come to a close.

Citing clubs that do things poorly or have had other obstacles like player retention effect their success has absolutely no bearing on the value of high picks.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

"Tarrant and Croad deal". Jezza. Point of order. That was two deals, separated by around 5 years. You may mean the McPharlin and Croad deal in 2001, which doesn't look quite as terrible in the fullness of time, but you have to ignore the problem of Sam Mitchell being the player taken at 36 (admittedly everyone overlooked him in 2000, and he was playing a Box Hill Hawks in 2001); and the Tarrant and Solomon deal, which although not directly traded together in a deal, came as a package.

100 percent - Geelong and Hawthorn's success was pretty much built on the draft and the emergence of Melbourne this year with Clayton Oliver, Angus Bradshaw, Hogan, Petracca, Salem, Tyson and many others. Once you have those kids coming through in their 3rd and 4th years ready to explode then you go topping up with some mature talent. Most premierships are built on the draft. I mean you are always open to trade if they fall in your lap though.

I'd hate (like Big H hate) to see him go but if he does it is for more than pick 4. Freo publicly stated they want to get back in to later rounds of this draft so I can foresee a situation where they would take a first rounder and multiple other second round picks.

As people have stated the recent trading for blokes like Lever, Weller, even Danger set various benchmarks for what someone of his calibre goes for.

Pure speculation but by Neale going there increases chances of Beams staying I'd reckon. Takes a heap of pressure off him getting tagged and having to be an inside mid every week.

All this talk about how fantastic to get top draft picks annoys me. Last year we picked Adam Cerra and at this stage is unlikely to hang around much past his initial contract. People are raving about the King twins and Lokosius(?) but they are also interstaters who may not want to stay in WA past their initial deal. Losing Lachie would set us back further in our rebuilding years and for all those not happy at the bottom of the ladder this could lengthen our stay there beyond Ross' tenure as coach.
