The way I see it the only way Freo let Neale go this year is with a Dane Beams like trade in 2014. That year the Lions gave up pick 5, 25 and Jack Crisp for Beams. Pick 4, 22 and Stacevich thanks.

Round 3, Pick 42 now off the table from Brisbane, gone to Geelong for Lincoln McCarthy, Lachie's mate.

It would be perfect if we could get pick 4, 22 and Starcevich for Lachie Neale and next years 3rd round pick

I think the Pick 4, 22 and Starcevich deal would probably be the best we're going to get so it's really a matter of Rosich, Belly & co deciding if Lachie is 100% certain of going next year then we should take this and move on to the next trades, Lobb, Jesse, Kelly etc. We don't want trades missed out on because we run out of time trying to concoct complicated deals.

Gumnut,

I'm not sure that Brisbane will agree to and trade like that very easily. It might take most of the trade period to get that through.

I'm wondering if some kind of a 3 way deal involving Melbourne might be easier to construct or 4 way if you involve Port.

I'd also have any Lobb deal as a lower priority than Hogan as Lobb offers less and is still injury prone. Lobb becomes more of a priority if there is no chance of a deal for Hogan.

All the same, I wish we had a full time list manager in place but that can't be helped

Edit: Hogan is still yet to request a trade. If he doesn't decide soon, then there may be no opportunity to do and trade with Melbourne

I agree Yeti, I looked at that option earlier involving Port where we ended up with Pick 9 & 10 and I think this would suit better if going for Jesse however, as you mentioned he is still to ask for a trade and we also don't know how the medical went assessing his foot injury. These navicular injuries are potentially very serious and long lasting and we don't want another Harley Bennell situation where he struggles to get on the park during his time with us. If this is the case then the Lachie deal that's being suggested with Brisbane may be more advantageous. Time will tell what is the best outcome.
I thought Rosich and Belly looked rather determined heading in to the meat market this morning though Steve does need to close his file properly so he doesn't lose all his notes and they did seem a bit overly concerned with the breakfast buffet to their right as they entered.

I still feel we hold the whip hand here - the secret is to do NOTHING.
Our worst case scenario is that Lachie plays for us in 2019.
If we get Lobb/Duncan with a future 2nd round pick, that is good enough in this trade period. If we play finals in 2019, then Lachie probably stays even longer. Hogan will miss out this year. We use out Number 5 pick on elite talent.

So, Brisbane now find themselves in the same position as Gold Coast did last year. They have overcommitted to Lachie and no player wants to go through this scrutiny for zero result. The Lions are now trapped and will need to pay overs to get this done. If Brisbane pay overs then I see us gaining 2 of Duncan, Lobb, Kelly, Hogan.

I like how this is playing out. All we need to do is Nothing, this has been Bondy's mistake these last 11 years. He has tried to do something, when the answer has been to do nothing and let the potential suitors promise the world.

(we should also draft another player called Lachie; it is a future gold mine)

I can only think that if Hogan doesn't request a trade then we keep whatever draft picks we get and look to develop a key forward from scratch.

We are not contending right now and the need for an established key forward is not as acute as it would be if we were aiming at a premiership attempt next year. Playing a developing tall alongside Tabs might have us primed for that when our younger mids starting hitting their straps in a few years

Maybe Hugh Dixon if we can't jag ourselves a high ranking tall forward this draft like Lukosius or a King. I'm just a bit wary of getting just one of the twins as the go home factor could loom large in future years.

I agree with Bozza. We tell (not ask), we tell Brisbane here it is, we want the same deal as was put up for Dane Beams - pick 4, pick 22 and Starcevich. Take it or leave it. We hold the all aces in this. We leave the Hogan deal for the moment because Hogan hasn't decided. We stand firm on Neale looks like he has decided.
I hear the AFL gurus saying Neale is only pick 4. I say BS to that.

Personally, I don’t think we’ll see Neale or Hogan formally request a trade (publicly anyway) as both parties know the deals may not get done, rather they’ll tell there clubs to see if it’s possible and we’ll find out when the trade happens. It’s just too risky to have to front up to your team mates next year if the trade doesn’t come off.
