Goodie, the club knows why he wants out; if the numbers are anywhere close to what's been reported, then LN is getting close to a 100% increase in his salary over the next five years. Hell, if I was offered a 100% increase in my salary to barrack for, say, Richmond, for the next few years, I'd say, show me the sash. And, I love the Freo Dockers*, but that bump gets me a boat or a new Porsche.
*No amount of money will get me to barrack for the Weagles. I have my scruples.

Not really Walter because if you look at what possible extras they could be offering as well as the fact there are no other realistic long term captaincy candidates on their list. Dayne Beams was great but has stood down and Zorko is a tosser of the highest order. Have a look at what Fagan is trying to build up there and it's pretty obvious that Lachie will become captain. He's basically assumed, along with Mundy, de facto captaincy status for us in Fyfe's absence and dragged the team over the line in more than a few games. He is also a player that younger players look up to.

Here's the thing. Rosich has said that retaining LN is Freo's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preference. The 4th preference should be squeezing Brissie for draft picks that will eventually land a Hogan (bet your bottom dollar Melbourne will squeeze Freo til we're purple in the face) or a couple of key forward types in the draft, which overall, isn't a bad outcome at all. It means Mundy goes back to the midfield, we offer Mitch Duncan more money to come home, and that's your big-bodied midfield half-sorted for the next few years.

Don't know about the 'keep Freo in Freo' 1st, 2nd 3rd preference trope, but I think it's used as a signal to whoever, including the player, that if you leave, we'll squeeze whatever we can out of you. I'm not saying that's a bad thing; I'm just of the opinion, that if LN leaves - clearly for waaaay better money - that Freo can do well out of this situation, so long as it doesn't cave to Melbourne's demands for Hogan. If Freo ends up with Brissie's first rounder, plus another pick, and we retain those picks to draft youngish key forwards, that's fine by me.

Just want to point out one more thing, as if it wasn't clear as the blue sky. There's nothing in the latest Hagdorn article that was new in any way at all. It just happened to be posted today, which gives the impression of certainty. Hagdorn's a flog. No one talks to him, he has no inside information, he has no real insight other than what he repeats from others, and he's not a newsbreaker in the sense that he has exclusives. Even his most famous get, that Sam Mitchell was leaving Hawthorn to come to the Weagles was a rumour on one of the websites. He happened to 'announce' it just as it was actually being announced. He makes things up. He's been wrong so many times when it comes to players retiring. He just gets info from a wide variety of sources that is already out there.

On another note, yet another Hagdorn no-brain-no-truth statement; Hagdorn widely promoted the idea that Freo would manipulate the voting so that a departing player wouldn't win the Doig because it would embarrass the club. We call BS. Hagdorn knows nothing, he just made it up, and his 'informed' 'educated' opinion is just a sham.
