I'm probably out of touch with most here on this but as much as I understand his importance i'm tinged with sadness that he has to play on. 37 yrs old and his body has taken a hammering in the last few years so much so that he is lucky to play half a season.
Hope not too much is expected of him next year. I hate to think how his body will hold up after football.

Outstanding effort for the big fella to play on!

4 time AA, twice Doig & Allen-Glendinning medalist. Not bad for a rookie taken at #33 in 2001.

Showing great leadership and self-sacrifice when the easy option would be hang up the boots and sail off into the sunset.

I note he was also talking up Strnadica so it looks like he’ll be going around again for us too.

Good news ... but can the club finally protect 211 and Hodor and start a two ruck policy. Build Hodor up from 10 minutes a quarter to 12 minutes and extend to 15 or 17 by the end of the year. Supplement him with Sandi off the bench or forward pocket and then in 2020 we can bring in Strnadica or Meek or Jones and do the same thing.
Both ruckmen will be better off and not so knackered. I think we would see them wreak real havoc in the forward line if they were`nt so buggered. No real team steal their centre half forward for ruck duties, other than unforeseeable emergencies.
Weve got to stop this effort based BS and play more efficiently and smarter. Our play wreaks of desperation and exhaustion.

What's this, Sandi's body has taken a hammering. He stubbed his toe, punctured a lung and did a calf in 17 years of football.

He's fine. Play him till he's 40. He was killing it this year.

Well 26 games in three seasons isn't the return of a perennially fit man. It is a tad better than Roly's coaching wins in that time though.

Just wondering though Hypen, if that's your idea of fine you could be a great fit for our medical and fitness team.

I admire Sandilands dedication and selflessness to helping Darcy and co. But their desperation to keep him one more season is a band aid over a burst artery.

You got to wonder how much the junior rucks will get out of this if he can only play 1/3 of the season, like the last 3, and that's assuming Lyon will play them alongside him. Surely he could do as much, if not more in a training/mentoring role?

Sandi probably realises he can offer more advice and coaching as a player than he can as an assistant in Lyon's coaching box. Plus he wouldn't have to keep dodging dodgy phone handsets.
