Okay got that Jezza.

6PR and Haselby not nice people who don't like Freo-bad guys.
Fox Football with Brereton, Dunstall, Russell and Pav-good guys who love Freo.

I think not, but worth a try.

I can't speak for Jezza, but maybe he focused on Pav's support for Lyon because he played under Lyon, so he has some insight into what he's like as a coach. Hasleby had retired by the time Lyon sashayed through the door.

I think the Bulldogs comparison is interesting. Despite their midfield being boosted by a number of father/sons, they never made a top 4, but played blistering football for 4 weeks and won a flag. I can't speak for the quality of their football. It looked like relentless numbers at the ball and quick hands to me. Not exactly revolutionary coaching stuff. It was fun to watch because they were irrepressible, the way we were at out best.

We had a string of top 4 finishes but came up against an historically great Hawthorn team. Life goes like that sometimes.

mac,

you are correct. Haselby has been negative towards to the club. So has Hardie. The Hackdorn is just a wally. But Duffield is saying the same thing. So is Ling, Shaw, Jude Bolton and Cornes.

So are others on here and other forums. Not everybody has an anti-Freo agenda. An anti-freo agenda doesn't explain or excuse 9 losses by over 50 points this year alone.

Most of the critics on here have made valid points. Most of it seems to be down to frustration that we don't ever change from a failing approach and the people on here are not anti-Freo.

We clearly need to do better but I'm not sure that we will when all we do is double down and say that we are on the right track

The club has lacked accountability , from exceptionally poor first round recruiting, to skill development, to list management, to player improvement.
Putting Ross Lyon aside , assistant coaches have stayed basically the same, Chris Bond has been there for years etc.

Not enough accountability .

As for Ross he is extremely Snarky and deliberately dishonest with many of his media comments. Maybe they are well meaning to protect the player or simply trying to back up a previous error he has made and refusing to back down , I don't know .
But the bottom line is it is dishonest and leaves little faith for the member that the Club has the ability to introspectively review itself without putting self interest of current leaders above what is best for the club.

Is Ross pulling the self interest strings , possibly not but Chris Bond, Rosich , Mark webber allowed by a weak chairman and board for accountability to truly occur.

Pav's always been a 'Yes' man.

There, I said it.

He's a company man. Toes the line. Says the right things. Good bloke, could play.

Yes man.

Yeti,

‘Ling, Shaw & Cornes’

Really!!???

If you are basing your argument on the ramblings of A-grade clowns like these then who next will you be quoting - Andrew Gaff’s under 12 tennis coach??

And not 2 mins ago I was congratulating DLers on another thread for staying clear of the bile issuing forth from Shaw.

Should’ve known better...

Jason,

try to read the whole post and not just cherry pick for something to criticise. You, among others on here, choose to blindly support Roly by shooting the messengers and avoid tackling what they are saying. They are all saying the same things.

Sometimes even A-grade clowns get things right.

Unless you want to tell me that everything is going well and we are on track? Are you saying that?

If not maybe read what they say with an open mind.

Guy, I tend to agree on Pavlich. But even yes men equivocate, even slightly, when their personal views diverge from the company line.

Yup Morgan, absolutely. Like suggesting a review of the entire club is needed while saying RoLy is the right man for the job.

It should be noted that criticism of Freo's current state and future trajectory might just as well be considered pro-FFC as anti.

Pointing out that a man is drowning doesn't necessarily mean you don't want him rescued.

So Nick Reyne, is suddenly your master accountant. These flogs who writes columns like these should be taken to task. Fair to say, if you terminate a contract before it expires, there’s going to be fiinancial consequence. The fact remains Roly is still one of best coaches in the AFL and whose nous would be highly sort after if and when he leaves Freo. Sometimes having faith is mightier than the $$$$$$.

Sorry Yeti, but I am not defending Roly - I’m simply spreading the blame a bit further than most seem willing or able to - including those muppets you keep quoting as if they’ve had a sudden epiphany the rest of us missed.

We played crap on the weekend. Really?? I hadn’t noticed. It happens in footy - get over it. Go ask a Melbourne fan what it’s like to go through a brutal rebuild if you think you’re an orphan.

But if we’re now at the point where it’s mainstream journo’s guiding our future actions, have a look at Nick Rynne’s piece in The West today about the cost of cutting Roly loose.

Someone - anyone - explain to me a solution to the quandaries of:

(i)Who’s going to pay for it?
(iI) How do we attract a quality coach when we can’t make tough decisions and stick to them in the face of fan/media histrionics?
(iii) How does that add 2-4 preseasons onto our young list so we can compete with the more experienced sides next year?

As it stands right now, our club is holding firm in the face of incessant and quite frankly opportunistic hysteria. The players are supporting the current strategy (note: strategy is NOT a euphemism for Roly) - so too is the Board and administrators.

Say what you like of all of them but unless you’re inferring our entire club - as a professional entity - is under the magical spell of one person who is deliberately and knowingly driving the bus off a cliff with everyone happily singing Kumbaya - then it’s more than just one person responsible for the position we are in.

If the club was going to cut Roly loose it would’ve been during the other great manufactured, hysterical media frenzy earlier this year.

I’ll be renewing my membership next year, turning up each week to cheer on my team and giving the footy media the same level of contempt and disdain they’ve always deserved. At least in terms of their coverage of Freo.

If others want to get sucked into that vortex and self-immolate at the apparent hopelessness of it all - go for it. But that just makes pets nervous and liquor vendors wealthier, IMHO.

Jason, the players did not seem to be supporting the strategy over the duration of Saturday afternoon.
