What about this for a trial? 1st half - 15 can go anywhere and 3 inside the 50 at stoppages.

But in the second half..........flip it. 15 inside 50 and 3 midfielders.

Last man standing. Like rollerball.

How about 18 players in the 1st quarter, 14 in the 2nd, 10 in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th. And we'd all be like, "Big mistake taking Mundy off so early".

And to have another strum on my old saw, and bring down the mood of levity, no minimum distance for an intercept mark. Opposition boot = mark over any distance.

"I don't think there's anyway there could be a risk to the integrity of the competition"
So says Gillion McLachlan, administrator and CEO of our great national sport.
I think what he means is: "Channel 7 are leaning on me to create higher scoring games, so they can show more adverts, and they want instant results".
Or maybe I'm just too cynical.

What did they do at AFL HQ for us to be at this stage? We must be the only professional game in the world in such disarray.

The main thing I’m sad about is that the game that I grew up going to with my now 90 year old Dad, who still goes to games, is nothing like the fantastic game we loved. It’s sling shot rugby by foot and people in Victoria F’d it up and aren’t bright enough to fix it.

Who will have the nurries to trial the way it was? A few drafts may be tricky, but it’d correct itself over a few years.

Noddy, if you follow the money, you'll get the real story.

This will never happen - far too sporting a proposition for the AFL to ever, ever consider:

Play only 17

That's what I reckon. Less games means each game is more important so less resting players or treating the way trip to other side of the country as a mini bye.

But it highlights to me that the problem is coaches. They're all dishonest, conniving, self interested bastards. You can't illuminate them but you could certainly have a cull and limit their input on match day.

The world tastes good because the Candyman thinks it should not because they changed the rules to force him to make it taste good.

I'd be happy to see the bottom teams' most maligned players armed with sticks battle it out with their most disgruntled supporters also armed with sticks as a replacement for the final quarter in any gone game in the last third of the season.

It would clear the air.

Noddy, what would it cost to photocopy a rule book from 1975 and send a copy to the clubs, coaches, players, and media. And send a copy done in "big" writing to the umpires. Make it compulsory for the umpires to read it and apply said rules. The coaches etc can do what they like with their copies.
