Morgan,
I never made the claim that Stephenson being so good he forced Buckley to open the forward line. What I said was Buckley adapted what he was doing to take advantage of his players strengths. I also said that Roly does not do that and therein lies the tale.
FWIW, I don't think it was Buckley, at least not on his own. He is surrounded by some very good coaching talent where Roly has surrounded himself with ... well what can you call them? Elite coaching talent wouldn't be my first choice.
Stephenson was just an example of adapting your method to suit your assets. Contrast that to Roly's approach of forcing your assets to change so they can be slotted into a preconceived idea of how Roly wants the game to go.
Its not making the best use of what we do have, is damaging to what we do have and is not reflective of the way the game has changed.
Roly is tilting at windmills with my way and no other approach. Its time he faced reality and realised the world isn't how he wants it to be.
Edit: Titus Oreilly puts it rather nicely
Should we tell him that keeping Fremantle to 48 points is the footballing equivalent of being pleased, you managed to dress yourself in the morning.
That just about sums things up nicely as far as Roly's defensive mindset goes.
