Excellent away win! We’ve got to start getting those away wins against bottom 8 sides. I thought it was good that Ross gave the young guys more of a run through the middle and rested fyfe and Sandy in the forward line. We’re a much better team when they play, happy for them to be nursed when the game was done and dusted.

Yep it would be good if Ballas got treated the same as other players, doesn't help when you have the likes of Dermott chuckling away saying yeah the umps don't usually pay those to Ballantyne.

It would have been good to keep going after half time but for those saying we should have beaten them by more then 10 goals, the ladder leaders only managed to get over them by 10 points.

Happy for Ballas have had my doubts but has shown his bravery last two weeks. Well done deserved his games amongst the senior players.

Jeb, they covered that ground, they just covered it smarter, not all at full pace. That is why they managed to be a bit more accurate with their goalkicking and other skills.

South Beach, it is a pretty good spot, but a bit like Cockburn, getting overrun by people with too much money and no concern about aesthetics. Yeah, I am a bit feisty on this issue, but I believe footy should be footy, not another version of rugby. There are already 3 versions of that we don't need another one.

DoD, while they don't happen often, they do happen. We went defensive after half time and the spectacle suffered. I would rather have seen us kick 24 goals and win by 5 than us kick 15 and win by 10, after having kicked 12 to 0 at half time. To only kick 3 goals in the second half is an indictment on the tactics we employed in the second half.

Don’t over analyse things.
By my rough count Freo kicked 10 behinds) ( I’m not counting rushed).
Kick those you win by 100.
7 of those came in the second half. Kick half of those and you are looking at an 80 point flogging.
Freo has missed goal opportunities in the first minute and the last minutes of games this season so I’m not putting it down to fatigue or game plan - simply execution and I’m happy for now that at least the players are getting those opportunities to kick goals.
Don’t blame the young fellas either - Fyfes kicking was woeful at times and Matera missed a couple.

RM,

take what you can get. We won by nearly 10 goals.

Sure it was only Carlton but considering nearly half our games this year we scored 60 points or less, winning by that much is breath of fresh air, especially an away game. Also we played 2 talls forward (finally) and that worked a treat as well, so good signs.

There was a lot to like but don't miss out because things weren't perfect. Enjoy the good things when they come

I enjoyed it Yeti, the people in the playground next door could attest to that. But the "Lyon is a Supercoach" brigade are using this game as an example of how great he is. I am just pointing out the similarities to 2015, both individual games, and our season as a whole. I do not believe we have progressed as much as some think.

To those who say our kicking for goal was bad, I say yes it is a fault of the high intensity game plan. A player who has sprinted 400 meters in the first minute and a half is going to be just as fatigued in the time given to take a shot on goal as one later in the game. Our game plan calls for that effort continuously.

I haven’t read one post using this game about how Lyon is a super coach. Don’t forget ballas running into an open goal 10 meters out and missing or was that Lyons fault because ballas had to sprint before he got the ball ?
I’m just picturing Lyons half time talk. Good half fellas we’re killing it now let’s go out there and play defensive this second half and see what happens

You should hear what they’re saying about Bolts over here in Melb. Having witnessed Fyfe’s 150th at Etihad and watching the blue baggers leave at half time, I didn’t worry about the 2-3 posters we hit on the way to a 12 goal blitz. We had 28 scoring shots. It was over at half time. And we got the W with a very young team on the road on a 6 day break against a team coming off a bye. Put those factors in an equation and the answer is normally a failure. Well played Freo and great coaching Roly.
