Rosich resigned Lyon to cover his own arse during this year and next, which he expected was going to go south quick.

That's becasue of all the above. They're sticking to the same message of rebuild as a front for persistent failures, that many saw coming. Harris did, and buggered off before the fan was started up.

If it doesn't get switched on soon, things are going to get worse, for longer. There is no way Lyon and Rosich are competent enough to get this club off the deck. They've already proved they're duds.

I don’t think there should be any excuses from today

We played quite well in the first half but then crapped the bed in the second half. North were harder at the footy for longer than us. They have quite a young side as well so they should be commended for their effort.

The game is won or lost in the midfield.

Rebuild is a footy marketing concept used as cover for the realisation that you've FUBAR'd on a big scale and are in a huge hole, or about to drop in one. The masses buy it and pay to stay on the ride.

Meanwhile, well run clubs like Hawks, Worst Cheats, Sydney and other regular top 6 clubs that don't get decent draft picks, carry on doing so, when "logic" says they should boom and bust, without access to the young talent the bottom 8 get.

Crap clubs boom and bust. We're crap. In fact, we've only managed one boom. That's crap on a consistent scale. Rebuild, my arse. We're run by clowns.

I'm gonna stand against the flow here a little and side with a few others who have tried to point out things weren't that bad today.

Firstly, both teams were disappointing in the first q, wasting shots on goal. By the end of the quarter the scoring shots had moved towards a more equal footy, maybe 5 in favour of the Roos after it blew out early. While it looked like being a disaster early, Freo fought back and the big loss I started worrying about was instead, a very narrow game towards the end of the third... the middle quarters were very even and the third especially was ferocious. The rain brought out the hardness Freo have lacked. There were errors but it was wet... so meh. Losing Sandi was the key to it... once he was gone, try as they might they couldn't overcome the loss of that big body working in there.

There were extended passages of brutal play where neither team gave nor got an inch. There were some interesting umpiring decisions that went against Freo and for the Roos seperately... the key decisions always seemed to go the Roos way regardless of attacking or defending play.

Both teams left men forward at times and for quite a while it was man on man across the ground.... and because I like to think poetically while watching the game, it felt to me like Freo had been given their heads to have a go at their man and try to win because they played that way. Then those umpiring decisions came into play and some key contests went their way instead of ours. Alex Pearse played through the middle and looked fine there although he did make one mistake that led directly to a goal against us.

I want RoLy out but I think there's some unfair inaccuracies being put out about today that are more about emotion than logic.

Despite some infuriating passages I am still impressed by our young players. We may click soon enough, with or without current coaches. Our method is laborious at times but I can still see some real good periods. We are not fully committed to rebuild. Johnno and pearce and maybe ballas should not be there. Why are excuses even needed? I do know we need some boldness from coaches and management...but this is beyond our control. Seeing most players really committing to contests is something I will take out of this game.

Freo has played quite well at home until today, even against the Slime.

I was starting to stomach beltings away from home; after all Freo were playng up to half a dozen youngsters who aren't used to FIFOing every fortnight.

But to serve up that crap at home, 78 turnovers, is unacceptable. I don't care what the weather was like, the team was clueless a lot of the time. Luckily, NM were only a little less crap and the game was still to be won in the last quarter.

Winning ugly is still winning. They failed.

I'll omit further comment on the umpiring, those despicable maggots completely ruined the contest.

It is disappointing when we have talent but it seems as though it is stagnating and it is like the players have been playing the same game every week but getting worse . it is like the spirit , the light , the passion has faded .
We need something to happen , something to snap the club out of what is going bad .

For me, it boils down to asking a simple question and its one I have posed before and never had a sensible answer from the pro-Lyon crowd.

I could be quite harsh here and use his own words against him when he said there would be no excuse for him not to deliver our first premiership by 2020. Well, I think most on here would concede that is a desperately unlikely outcome.

For me, the answer is a definite no. He will not take us to a flag.

His limitations are readily apparent. He has been either unwilling or unable to construct a successful forward structure during his time at Fremantle. Even when we had Pavlich, he had the option of using a second tall to divide the defenders and consistently declined to take advantage of that option. We don't have Pavlish now but there has been seemingly no change to the way we do or don't do things forward of the centre.

Lyon strikes me as one of those people who try to cast the world in their vision rather than adjust their vision to acknowledge the real world. This rebuild, as others have stated is a crock. We look no different to how we looked 3 years ago. We do things the same, we make the same mistakes and all we see is new faces doing the same things the old faces did.

Thats not a rebuild. The only thing missing is the monorail song.

The fact that there has been so little change is what leads me to want Lyon gone. A coach with the capabilities of winning it all would have made changes to reflect the changed circumstances. Rotating a list with with delistings and drafting for no apparent change isn't development. Its waste.

Losing games isn't the key metric. When you blood so many new players, you will lose some games. We can all live with that. The key metric is observable improvement.

For me that means seeing forwards tried, flaws identified, changes made, skills taught to correct those flaws, losing games even but losing with something gained as a result.

Losing games by repeating stubbornly earlier mistakes does not fit the profile of improvement nor does it give me any hope that things will ever change without that change being imposed on an unwilling coaches box.

Without that sign of improvement, I see no point in not wanting change

Tonight was probably the longest and most dour ride home from a game I've ever experienced A busload of supporters that realised North Melbourne are better than us travelling away than we are at home. That's an awful thing to confront in total silence. We are way worse than North - and we have all the star players and they have only a high scoring grandpa reject from Carltoon.
