For weeks I’ve been hearing about how we never have anyone in the forward line. I watched that closely today and only twice in 120 minutes of football did I see us have no-one to kick to.

Most of the game we had Cox and Ballantyne to kick to, which is not much better than no-one, but that’s the cattle we have at our disposal.

In the third quarter when the game was on the line they scored two goals from junk kicks into the 50 that Waite and Brown marked because they are actual tall towards who can mark the ball and kick goals.

I am not entirely without sympathy for Lyon as the team is largely devoid of talent. The backline is okay, the midfield is mediocre with the exception of Fyfe and one or two others and the forward line is probably the weakest in the league. There is no cavalry coming to the rescue either. I am not sure at this exact moment in time Clarkson would be doing much better. But you could be sure there would be some young players showing some progress with a different coach.

Yeah nah, winning stats is one thing, what you actually do when you've got the bloody ball is another. That doesn't get on the stat sheet unless theres's a goal beside it.

Yes, Freo did play more of a forward line this week. Against the stingiest defence in the comp, with tools ill equipped for the job. All NB did was show up how poorly Freo use the ball in the forward 50, regardless of how it gets there.

It's been happening for years, even with Pavlich distracting the best defender every week.

Today, Freo reached a new low of rabble and are on their way to becoming the Richmond of old.

Then let's put the blame squarely where it belongs....on the coaches for failing to develop the talls we do have and failing to develop a game plan that caters for the assets we do have.

I can remember, Morgan, when Bond was criticized for not drafting talls you disagreed long and hard in support of Bond. Now you support Lyon by saying we had no cattle up forward.

Weve done little or nothing to develop what we do have.

So, the coaches are deficient as are the list managers. Doing nothing but waiting is no longer an option

Yeti, you should know more than most that Tabs was a rookie pick who is now a competent AFL forward. Sure, you’d never credit that as ‘development’ because...I’m not sure why.

Key forwards are hard to land. We don’t really have one at the moment.

Good on North for doing well out of their own speculative pick in Brown. And Waite, who we tried to get and didn’t want to come.

But our midfield is better than theirs and didn’t really fire a shot. Ballas was a shadow of his former self, and Matera is now allergic to having shots at goal. Cox isn’t a forward and Walters and CamMac are having to do too much.

Morgan, I thought that was two oerfal teams going head to head. If you’re saying they scored two important goals from junk kicks into the forward line are our backs not good enough too?

We may not have won in the middle (I’d suggest 8-10 of inside 50 advantage came in the first 6 minutes and genarally other stats OKish) but I don’t agree that we were smashed.

You watched a different game to I, Morgan.

Someone to kick to in the forward line doesn’t equal someone running the same way into the forward 50 as the kicker.

I thought Neale was the only one showing some leadership and standing up for the young kids copping a bashing from Mr Scott’s bullies. Banfield particularly was being picked on. This was very weak and disappointing from some of our senior midfielders in my point of view. At one point it was Brayshaw standing up for Cerra in a push and shove with three north players while Mundy and Walters strolled away. Neale’s game suffered as he preyed a lone hand.

Freo need some aggots. Attacking aggots. On many levels.

It's a bit rich,Morgan, that you talk about Tabs development when most on here have been critical about the way he was developed.

He was subbed off on more games than he played out in his first 50 games. He'd get played one week then spend the next 4 at Peel. He's proven himself despite the coaches not because of them

We had heaps of players forward of the ball, and leading to the kicker. Mundy in the forward line shows how game sense and instinct get you easy shots at goal.

We just don’t have actual key forward with that.

What we see today is due to the sins of a few years ago.
1. The resigning of d Pearce for 2 MORE years in rnd 8 in 2016 who was approaching 30 at the time. This money could of been used to keep crozier. No star but gee he had something
2. The recruiting of a ruckman in 2017, when sanderlands turns 34!
3. The poor recruiting ( albeit) in a difficult period between 2011 to 2014
4. The continual recruiting of midfielders where we still are only average compared to other elite sides
5. The failure to recognise that Ballantyne has not played consistently well since September 2014 ( all Australian year)
6. The absolute shamozzle in trying to recruit a replacement for the ageing champion in pav between 2010 onwards
7. The ridiculous early resigning of r Lyon , when we could of waited. Again the club being dictated to.

8. The inability of our recruiters to identify enough elite talls well SINCE pave.
9. Not recognising the game has changed.

What a laughing stock we are. We are indeed the Richmond of the 90’s and 00’s.
We lack footy intelligence and a supporter base that accepts the absolute crap that freo have dished up.

We had players forward of the ball, after our midfielders and defenders played kick to kick for a couple of minutes, each time they created a turnover. What we need however, Morgan, is space across the centre for our mids to lead into when our backs get the ball under pressure. This allows the backs to put the ball to "grass", to the advantage of teammates who can run onto it, then the same for the mids kicking to the forward line. You can not do this when your forward line is up on the wing and half back crowding things up and bringing 6 more opponents closer to their own goal.
