I'm not going to dredge up the past and talk about the skinny Victorian midfield drafting years, but look at last year's draft picks.
Why do you think when even that great football critic Blind Freddy could see that our forward line was our big weakness and the stocks were already thin there, in both drafts with 10 choices only take two forwards-Dixon at 44 and Switkowski at 73.
We also drafted two lumbering ruckmen when we already had another two and the rest were midfielders. Why have so many ruckmen any way when the coach will only ever play one specialist ruckman in the side? Other teams will play two but not us.
We then go to this year and both the forwards we drafted have long term injuries, one TBA(see you next year).
We then have another of our key forwards in Tabener injured and TBA as well.
Then we go to our great white hope as key forward over the last few years in Apeness who is finally fit but Roly says he is now primarily a ruckman. That of course makes five big behemoths ruckmen that have a bigger turning circle than the Queen Mary.
Then to Strnadica. We recruit him as a long term key forward prospect but he spends 2017 in the Peel reserves playing as a ruckman. In the last few weeks he has played as forward in the league and surprise surprise has been regularly kicking a few goals.
Now Jones, the 205 cm ruckman we recruited. Ruckman? No, we play him at Peel as a CHF while Apeness who was supposed to be a forward plays in the ruck.
How about Kersten who we recruited as a forward? We are desperately short of forwards but Roly early in the season states that Kersten is now to become a backman. This is one area where we already have more than enough players to fill gaps.
Of course we also have the other ruckmen in Meek that we recruited but didn't need, but we've got so many ruckmen, even with one out injured in Darcy that he has to play reserves.
Is there some sort of stubborness with the coaching panel? What is it with the recruiters? How come most of us can see the bleeding obvious and they can't?
God, it's frustrating being a Freo supporter.
