Morgan, you always seem to find justification for not suspending players for their offences, but as we have seen the be nice approach doesn't work, NN should have accumulated enough points under the old system to be given weeks a couple of times, but he keeps getting let of or not even cited. As for the charge, copied direct from the MRP report.

Nic Naitanui, West Coast, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Karl Amon, Port Adelaide, during the fourth quarter of the Round Seven match between West Coast and Port Adelaide, played at Optus Stadium on Saturday May 5, 2018.

So whether the tackle was legal or not does not come into it, by the way Amon picked up a loose ball from a ruck contest and had not taken a mark. After watching a couple more replays, I think he was very lucky to only get a week. In the rugby and league codes that would be worth 3 or 4 weeks, and League especially is not noted for dishing out suspensions for nothing offenses.

Walking past a park bench this morning, I saw a photo of Whattalottahooey and his tackle on Parfitt earlier this year. Like the tackle on Amon from PA, he can clearly be seen driving the head of his opponent into the ground. In fact the photo shows his forearm driving his head into the turf.

From memory, this is the third time in six games he has placed an opponent at risk in this manner.

A week is pretty soft considering the potential damage that can be caused by his actions. I only hope the tribunal doesn't run scared of the slime's lawyers like they normally do.

Unlike Ballas, who sizes up to the Port ruckmen and Matthew Scarlett, Niotacluey really targets the opposition's big guns and big names: a parfait and anon? Even keener, when, as someone here has noted, he does it like a coward from behind.
Funny thing is, he doesn't strike me as being the schoolyard enforcer - a script he has arrived at later in life, possibly at the behest of those with snapping necks and flappy arms.
Show some spine MRP and up it to two weeks.

The West’s large back page picture of Naitanui driving Brandon Parfitt into the ground is pretty damning and shows how dangerous his deliberate tackling technique is. Definitely needs to be suspended before he causes a severe injury to someone.

I'm hoping this bright, sunny morning is the 1st day of a new era, when the AFL sees the light and declares that, henceforth, it's true role is to focus solely on ethical sports governance and then dedicates itself to achieving the highest standards of fair play and equal, impartial management of all the sport's participants....

I expect, in reality, that the money will talk loudest and Notacluey will get off with a slap on the wrist. Eventually, unless he's forced to modify his approach to the game, his 'fair but aggressive' tackling style will put an opponent (probably a much smaller bloke) in a wheelchair.

It's so hard not to be cynical.

As I said earlier, he’s got some form on these types of tackles. The problem is the umps are just as likely to reward him as penalise him.

The intention of the game does not include to intentionally hurt other players, although they get hurt during the course of playing.

He’s a bit of thuggery in him and will be watched closely from now on which is a good thing, because if he was to continue tackling like he has he would likely cause a life long injury to another player.

His name remains a headline writers delight.
So, probably, nothing will change.

Fact is, he could have tackled differently (broken record I know). At the end of the day they are all brothers out there, all players have that one thing in common, despite all the push and shove and bravado (some think it is), they should at the very least be respectful of each other and minimise injury. Duty of care is not a fluffy notion of the modern world. It makes sense. He had a chance to tackle him strongly but he chose to just drive him into the ground. Done like a dinner mate. And that stupid tv head who said that Simpson should tell Gnit Nat to not change a thing...what, is he in grade 7 still?

Actually, I think along with the 1 week suspension a $10,000 fine to the club is more like it.
