I'd be happy with the Tom Swift cup.

It's not really surprising that Freo have seized on the golden opportunity presented to get rid of both trophy and RG medal.
Since he became coach, Ross Lyon has made it clear, season after season, that he doesn't regard the derby games as particularly significant, beyond the 4 points available for the winner.
Quite right too. I think the Dockers, club and membership, have progressed well beyond those far-off days when a game against the Ooftits was patronisingly dismissed as "our grand final".
It really is just a H & A game, against increasingly irrelevant opposition, becoming more and more like playing the Brisbane Lions, also a top team, once upon a time.

Do you remember when Nathan Wilson had his first press conference? When asked about whether he considered joining the Eagles, he came right out and said that in Perth you were either and Eagle or a Docker, he was a Docker, and he hated the Eagles. He instantly jumped into my favourite players list.

Here's the thing - he doesn't seem particularly polished in his comments to the media (which is also a nice change), so I assumed it was true and genuine. But even it is wasn't, he nailed his first communication.

I'm stoked the RGM has gone. Good riddance. If the club killed it on purpose good on them.

But they didn't say that. If they came out and said "you know what, we respect Ross Glendinning for his accomplishments, but to be honest they really don't have anything to do with Fremantle football, and because of that we think there are better choices for name of the medal for a game that Freo plays in" i would have been rapt with the club for finally showing some cajones.

But they didn't. They came out and said because a beer company sponsorship had changed there would be no medal. Either they killed the medal and they were too gutless to come out and say it, or as shane says they and West Coast just didn't get around to organising it, and the Rosco will be back as the Gage Roads Rosco in time for the second derby this year.

The medal lost all credibility for me when Carr was overlooked for Judd. It is the only time I have condoned booing it was a shocking decision. Since then I haven’t given a rats about who wins it.

There’s a name “the fat rats cup”

Dockermus, thinking the derby is a great day and wanting to win it badly is not a sign of an inferiority complex or lack of priority - that’s Malthouse or Rosich logic.

I think you are onto something, Rosich wants it to be another 4 point game cause Lyon told him so. Rosich is the bloke who came up with solution of changing the jumper to correct poor football performances.

Ask Man U or Liverpool fans what it means to beat City or Everton. It’s what invested fans do. Rosich does not get it.

The east freo mob on this site have 29 flags, ask them if it’s important to win the foundation day derby.

I can see a CROWN being placed on the player best on ground next year sponsored by The Crown Casino and a poker machine for the winning club for a year and they get the earnings( kept in the Crown premises ). Makes more sense in 2018 than a cup & ribbon.

I’m with Quasimodo, the medal lost all credibility when it was awarded to Judd on a day when Josh Carr played his guts out to give us the (very much unexpected at the time) win.
However, my recollection of how that came about is different than that of Yeti’s who said that the Journo’s had voted for Carr but Rossco overruled.
Ross overruled a panel decision a couple of years earlier when Ashley Sampi had the votes and he gave it too I believe Gardiner.
For the Carr fiasco Rossco had actually given his top votes to Josh Carr but the 2 (cough cough) journalists on the panel had given Judd top votes (l can’t recall who the Journo’s were now but I can recall one at least had predicted Judd would win the medal in an article earlier in the week when he had also predicted an Eagles win)
I believe that was the only time the medal had gone to a player on the losing side, it was at a Freo home game and the media were supposedly surprised at the booing.
At least it gave them the chance to write an article about the crowd reaction instead of the result of the game.

I couldn’t care less about the (Carlton Mid) Trophy for the winning team, however, I found having a medal for the best player in a derby gave the fans something to talk about and debate.

Two points though

I: The medal should be neutrally named, something like the Western Derby, or Pavlich Worsfold, or Glendinning Allan Medal

II: There was no debate that day, it was Josh Carr’s Medal.

I've never had much time for Chris Judd, but opening his medal speech with the wry words "hmmm popular decision" while we booed him was pretty classic.

The media awarded it to Judd. Ross only made the unilateral decision once.

I’m sure that there’ll be a medal for BOG in the next Derby. In fact why wasn’t a Len Hall medal presented to Fyfe the other night. Now that’s a tradition we should acknowledged. Not the RG medal FFS.

Why are you sure and why can't they do it this derby?

And, if you've get a chance, could you run me through some of the previous Len Hall Medallists?
