Haselby had no say in what the medal was called which was presented to him. I would have thought he of all people would see the sense in the FFC stand on this. Im sure Pav would. It's using the new stadium to draw a line in the sand, and fair enough too. The current medal naming approach doesnt pass the pub test.

From Rosich's presser, it's clear to me that the corporate sponsorship excuse was just a smokescreen to try and tactfully say that the Board doesn't want the RG name on the medal anymore and the club took heat for this face-saving exercise.

If you're still a bit confused as to why the furor started in the first place, it boils down to this, and that's good enough reason for me:

Let's scrap Rosco's name from the medal completely. The medal should be much bigger than an ex players name. The name on the medal should be legendary. Something that all players would want.

I think it should be called the YAGAN.

Here's why....

"The Noongar people have always had strong leaders who have guided them as a people: legendary heroes of the past such as Yagan, Midgegooroo, Bessie Flowers and Mokare, and more contemporary figures like Jack Davis and Ned Mippy.

For Perth elder Richard Wilkes, one of their greatest icons is Yagan. Considered a mighty warrior by his people, Yagan was eventually killed by a settler and his head sent to England for study and display.

In 1994 it was discovered in an unmarked grave in an English cemetery and Wilkes led a delegation to retrieve his ancestor’s remains and bring them back to country. In 2010 Yagan’s remains were laid to rest at a sacred site in the Swan Valley where his body is thought to be. The area is now known as the Yagan Memorial Park.

With Yagan’s body once again whole, Wilkes says his ancestor will finally be able to walk in the Dreamtime." (www.indigenous.gov.au/western-view-perths-noongar-community)

I’m just excited that this has finally brought back some spice and rivalry to the derby, compared to the tame affairs of recent years...it should be on for young and old on Sunday, and I for one can’t wait...

It's a massive game for WA footy fans, and Freo fans in particular..

There should be a medal for BOG.

People wouldn't still be bitching about Judd winning it if it didn't mean anything.

What it's called is a matter for discussion and debate.

You are naive if you actually believe this was anything other than a complete balls up by the executive, who have clutched at the naming issue after the sponsorship idea was poorly received.

There was no smokescreen or superior strategy at play here, just an ad man reacting to shifting public opinion on the fly.

In the interest of fairness and balance for both clubs, I
I propose the following:
1 BOG medal to be called Mathew Pavlich medal for next 21 years so then we're all all square
2. After 21yrs call it something like Yangan - a "traditional" neutral name
3. Judges to be from the Harbor Masters

Only fair and reasonable methinks

Let the Toast keep the Ross Glendinning Medal. He was an Eagle and still is, despite his short stint as Chairman of Selectors at Freo.
We should have our own medal, named in honour of someone held in the highest regard in Fremantle football (Souths or Easts, either past or present).
On Derby Day, the team that wins gets to award their medal to their best player. The other side doesn't (get to hand out their medal).
Based on this, and if we just use the last six derbies as an example, the Toast would have been the only team to hand out their medal for the last five derbies (Rd 20 in 2015 and all of the derbies 2016 & 2017). The last time Freo would have awarded their medal would have been in Rd 3, 2015..
Now that I have had time to cool down and think about it, I am all for drawing the line in the sand. I am saying that it is time we played for a medal that truly has a meaningful link to our Club ( and not the mob up the road). I mean no disrespect to any of the former Freo players who have won this medal and hope none is taken. They truly deserved the recognition and should rightfully feel proud to have been awarded the medal for their best on ground performance in that Derby.
Having said all of this, what I cannot believe is that the Club has got to the point where if one of our boys is deemed the BOG, they will not be recognised for their effort and have a medal awarded to them, as has been the case for the last 20 (or so) years. Ironically, the Toast from this Derby going forward, will always present the RG medal to one of their players, regardless of whether he was BOG or not..
The Club has to resolve this situation by Sunday otherwise they will risk a reaction from the supporters and media similar to the negative response shown towards the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

I think there should be a Ross Glendinning medal, in recognition of the great service he gave to both his clubs.

And won't it be lovely to see it presented at picturesque Blundstone Arena in Round 19.

I disagree with the need for a 'special' medal and trophy for what is in reality a home and away game. If the slime want to present their dears with a participation certificate, let them. Why should that be a concern for us.

As for those who criticise Rosich, you know I'm no fan of his but credit where its due. The board has got this one correct. The only valid criticism you could make was the original message, which was fairly stupid, and the time taken to get the true facts out there. Its possible they went with the original story as they were still trying to get the slime on board but its great the way they showed Nissy and Simpson up as liars after the slime tried to make us look bad.

Its fairly typical of those over entitled w******s up the road that they have to have everything named after them and I'm glad our board has finally told them where to go. No Glendinning Medal, No Mainwairing Wing and No Worsfold Room. The only way I can think of to improve on that is no toasters but I blame Shane for no longer promoting Deregister Egurls Day

I enjoy seeing who gets the best player medal for the derby but don’t really care about the trophy. It’s a shame Nisbett is using this to further his own end. Maybe the afl could step in to try and force his hand.

Our team is full of so many youngsters, most probably haven’t witnessed or know anything about the ‘tradition’ that surrounds the RG medal. Now is a good time to move away from it.
Let the Slimers have their little ceremony in their own rooms after the game, as I said previously, it’ll mean diddly squat to the rewarded player when they lose.
I suspect Judd has put his with the 2006 GF medal, knowing full well they are both tainted and not deserved.

Who are the umpires for this game? I get a horrible feeling that Wet Toast ( Channel 7 ) have tried their best to beat this up so Maggots can lick his lips! Mind you it will give Basil a chance to hit the high notes even if he doesnt know any of our players.......he's not alone there tho
