Been watching this conversation with interest, but for my 10cents worth I reckon we’re doing ok.
Five 1st year players this week, Four for the last 3 games. Last week in terrible conditions against a very talented team they definitely didn’t disgrace themselves. 2 wins (albeit scrappy) in the preceeding 2 weeks. Dont get down there n the dumps just yet.
I can understand the gripes about Lyons game plan, it is frustrating watching the kids have no one to kick it to, but give the kids a year I reckon we’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

So over the years I've been pretty critical of Roly. I must admit over this season I have seen improvement but to be honest I can't tell whether it is personnel (e.g. addition of Wilson) or coaching.

We are 2-2. Everything I've heard is that our losses have been away, against premiership contenders blah blah blah.

But here we are. 2 games against teams that are notionally in and around where we are. If we cannot win both of them, I say turf Ross.

Here are the games played of Freo vs Dogs as named. We are at home. Surely even Jezza can agree that if we lose this week, some serious questions should be asked of the coach.

Whether the criticism of the coaching is justified or not seems to be one aspect that some don't like having discussed but pinning that down to a single reason isn't really reasonable since different people are going to approach it from different angles.

I agree with you Corp that trotting out out the line that we are playing youngsters and excluding any other possible explanation is a nonsense.

That said, it shouldn't matter today. We are not playing a potential top side so there should be no excuse for negative play or negative structuring. I'm hoping we will go all out and take the Bullies to the cleaners today.

Then maybe we can all be happy for a week

I think we probably will go out and play with a forward line to kick to, use the corridor, and take a few risks to attack, Yeti and CA, and we will feel happy for a week. Then when we come up against a "top 4" side, it will be back to rugby style footy, and we will lose our way again.

Did anyone see the Saints v GWS game today? What style of game did the Saints play?

The dogs are pretty well skilled and quite quick. They will just cut us up if we play a flooding zone like defence and hurt us on the rebound.

I think we can exploit their defence if we play a forward line with at least a couple of stay at home forwards making strong leads as I don’t reckon the dogs defence is that solid.

I reckon we can all learn a bit from this game as to how the coaches are instructing the players on positioning and where to go.

If you are at the game live instead of just following the ball have a look at where our players are running to most of the time. Make an assessment as to whether we are playing assertive positive football.

we know we burn kicks into the forward 50. Thats one of the criticisms of the game plan and the way we structure up in our forward 50. Its not like it hasn't been mentioned before. Not more than 50 times every game but apparently we never seem to change.

Thats why its NOT surprising how much importance people put on coaches. Especially ones thats don't learn from previous failings

Freo going in hard, some bad kicking, some good kicking...but playing with energy and willingness to move it quickly. The kicking will get better. Taberner unlucky...was dominating.
