What a servant of the club he has been but after seeing my first game live yesterday for the season I felt sad for Johno as we tried to find an opponent for him and in the end he was moved to the forward line for no effect. The spark and pace is just not there anymore and he is just a shadow of those magnificent past years. What do we do with him though, it would seem an insult to see him running around at Peel. Retirement would seem the right way to go now with a final home game in 2 weeks time. A true legend of the club and will always be remembered.

I see it the other way, a luxury that you can swing him forward because the backline had everything covered.

Seeing as we are going in with Sandilands in the ruck and Tabs backing up, when tabs goes into the ruck, having the chance to throw Johnno forward keeps some forward line structure.

McPharlin has been sent forward in the last, Harry Taylor at the cats, even McGovern at the Slime has been sent forward on occaision to help out, Even though he started out as a forward he is a pretty decent defender..

Flexibility, you can't be a one trick pony in the AFL.

If Lyon has shown anything it's that he probably errs towards too much loyalty to the players who have served him well. For someone who isn't particularly open or emotional, his choking up at the Doig a few years ago about guys like de Boer, Mzungu and C Pearce was instructive, and probably the most human he has let himself be in public.

I reckon he'll play Johnno until it's irrefutable that he's no longer able to go. I don't think we're there yet. Besides, against a tall GWS forward line, he'd still be selected on merit at the moment.

I thought Johnno struggled a bit yesterday but is still serviceable we still need some old heads despite what some say and he is one of the better old heads. IMO Logue will eventually take this role, by this time our young and new defence should be quite settled to allow some genuine support for him to develop.
On another note I felt that his move into the forward line was made because Lyon wanted Mundy to spend more time around the ball.

Watch Johnno in pack situations where he has to pick the ball up from the ground or below his knees, he is really struggling with freedom of movement. To me his back looks shot, and I hope we don't push him to far.

Its a tough call. Do you go for Johnno, who will read the play correctly and make the optimal decision, or do you go for someone younger and faster who will get caught out and look a goose?
I'd play Johnno on merit and according to our needs this year.
