Yep, too much space and time through the middle for port. Sutcliffe slamming is just a hobby.

Happy to see better intensity, happy with most of the new faces.
Unhappy with poor kicking, and inability to pull down 'pivotal' marks. Gotta play Hodor with Sandy - I don't give a damn about what the rest of the competition are doing.
We need one of them resting forward as a 'big' target in attack. Haven't got one otherwise. Cam Mac is playing -at best - as a half forward flanker; not sure what Kersten is all about, but simply can't give 4 quarter efforts; and Tabs - well...for every bit of hopeful play, there's a 'let down' around the corner. As a 'marking forward', he simply HAS to take the pivotal mark when he's within kicking distance of goal. He is still struggling with this concept. We just have to keep preserve ring with him.

Very disappointed with Tucker. He has to show more at this stage. Pearce and Sutcliffe were as expected, and I think the bell tolls for Ballas. All can be substituted with younger players, and the sooner we do this, the sooner we go forward. Johnno is obviously gone, but he's the only big body we have down there. Can't see why Hamling isn't playing.?

It’s not about slamming Sutcliffe. You are missing the point.
He has played over a 100 games and to be honest when it counted in the second half and he needed to step up and hit a target going forward he did not.
It just simply time to give another player a decent go. Why not nyhas , or taylin duman. To often we have left players in the wafl and nothing eventuates.
Sutcliffe has had plenty of opportunity to step up and be counted. Today he did not.
The same applies to d Pearce , come on. Surely blind Freddy can see he does try but simply can’t deliver with his kicking.
What is the saying if you expect a different result doing the same thing it is madeness.
It is so painful seeing some players getting so many chances and others are not.
Very frustrating and to be honest demoralising. To see year after year poor skills, fumbling, poor tackle technique and a game plan that has simply failed against other teams. Unfortunately docker supporters have been used to failures . The club has had a messiah complex and thus though rl was the man. Giving him an extended contract was warranted , the length not. This will be ugly and again freo will be a laughing stock.

Eventually Port v Freo 6 years 1 month ago #104

Eventually
First game in 32 degree heat in Adelaide against one of the teams expected to play late into September I'd say there were good signs, great passages of play and early on some great pressure. Need to take our chances and maintain scoreboard pressure to keep team confidence up. Realise Banfield and Brayshaw need more games under their belt but not a huge input from them today however more concerned with long periods of " gone missing" from Tucker, Langdon and Danyle Pearce.
Would think Hughes, S Hill and Hamling would be very positive inclusions for us next week.

Port was far too good today. They made us look like a bottom 4 team playing a team heading for a very good year. When we exhausted our forward pressure in the first quarter we were left open to be monstered by a team using the ball better and coached with the intent of playing finals. It was clear that once our boys tired from pressuring without scoring and Port kicked away there was never going to be any effort that could get us back into the game. I think the score line could have been worse thankfully our percentage is around 54% but I don’t think it’s going to get better next week.
Taberner was good and Luke Ryan continues to play well. Banfield and Bradshaw are probably happy to have their first game out of the way.
As for the game plan it seems similar to what we’ve been used to. Could be an interesting year for our coaching staff or will there be an additional year added to our rebuild?

In my opinion can't blame the coach for that one. What I saw was good effort, terrible skill execution and poor decision making. Really poor inside F50 entries - mostly sit it on the key forwards head and hope for the best. Didn't work.

Monstered at the stoppages, they killed us at clearances, they were quick and skilful. Their ball movement and decision making way outclassed ours.

You must have watched a different game to me. Cletus.

Tabs missed one mark when his were chopped and got another that led to a goal. He spent 95% of the game behind the ball not in the forward line and played almost of the second half at full back. Somehow we can't criticise Sutcliffe because its not his fault he's a spud but we can criticise Tabs for somehow not playing at full forward.

I'm doing Roly eyes at the logic on here

Tabs is a Kpp not a ruckman. Not playing Sean Darcy if he is fit and after his great effort last year is baffling.
Cox, Nyhuis showed promise last year why aren’t they playing? We’ve too few senior players who are capable of leading through their playing experience....they’re followers.

Lyon and the selection, coaching staff stuffed up the selection and structure for the Port game.

It is easy to win the stoppages when the opposition ruckman is pushed in the middle of the back at almost every throw in and around the ground ball up, when every time you throw the ball out it is play on, when every time you tackle the opposition you get a free kick, when the opposition can't buy a free kick for their tackles.

Besides that some of our kicking was shocking, Sutcliffe, Johnno and D Pearce have to go, and Mundy has got his 3 bad games for the year out of the way in round 1.

It will be interesting to see whether Blakely gets suspended for staging for the late punch to the head in the first quarter as well.

Early days, first hit out, hot day, bit rusty, played some new kids etc but I reckon it's probably time to up the skills training to a full half hour.

Why can't the coaching staff get the blame for dishing up the same sh*t ad nauseum? Weve got 22 new players in two years, so have we just recruited absolute duds every time? if not then it has to be down to coaching doesn't it?

I watched the game and thought we were better. Better than Freo of 2017. Not better than Port.

Mind you, I'm a bit puzzled on how Fyfe was used.
