Darcy Tucker cops a lot of flak on here but I think he is an under appreciated player and today he had a very good game. He always puts in the hard yards on game day. He will be a big improver this year and make a few folk eat their words.

Not sure if Ross Lyon has beaten Simpson coached Easley at all but I liked what I saw. I reckon that young Banfield recruit shows something and with Pearce and Wilson down back there was more poise coming out from defence.
D Pearce kicking backwards and gifting a goal. I guess he might be the new scape goat.
Maybe the optimism might carry for while. I guess we will find out in about 4 months if there is really improvement

RTB is not shifting the goal posts.

After topping the ladder in 2015 we all expected top 4 in 2016 only to be met with the disaster. So the rebuild actually started in 2017 with our first top 10 pick in November 2016. Then we got a second bumper draft in November 2017, so this year is officially year 2 in the rebuild. We are lucky that some good recruiting in 2014, 15 and 16 have given us some excellent trades and mature agers that has put us ahead of where we should be.
Brad Hill, Nathan Wilson, Joel Hamling, Brandon Matera, Cam McCarthy and Shane Kersten, have certainly bolstered our mid age players with quality and experience. Griffin logue, Brashaw and Cerra are great ins and Tabener, Blakely, Langdon, Tucker, Darcy, Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan are all leaping ahead.
add them to ours stars and i think we will be back in the 8 this year and the top 4 next!!!!

In terms of this rebuilding malarkey, we were pretty good from 2003 - 2006, and from 2012 - 2015. Which suggests it has taken us quite a while from one peak to the next. We seem to be tracking quite well, but I hope we don't have to wait to 2021 before we start hitting our straps again.

Let's not forget that the start of a rebuild is always a bit fuzzy. After being an assistant coach for Freo and seeing us fall off a cliff in 2007, Harvey didn't exactly clear the decks at Freo and start the rebuild that offseason. In fact, he brought in a washed-up Mark Johnson from Essendon. Harvey obviously thought he could turn it around without blowing it up. Fremantle only won twice in the first thirteen subsequent games. At that point it was obvious even to Mark Harvey we needed to completely rebuild, the 2008 draft was arguably Freo's best, and the rebuild was off and running.

But that 2007 year was a wasted year.
