It’s all about Rd 1. At this stage we’re injury free. Given some youngsters a go and seeing how our veterans are standing up. Neale, Mundy, Walters and Sandi are looking the goods. Younger Hill is doing his road runner stuff and Tabener is gradually becoming a forward we need. Johnson is a concern for me atm. And Ballas is just going. The addition of Pearce and Wilson in the backline has already stiffened our backline.

PS: For those who thought losing Weller for a No. 2 pick In Brayshaw was foolish, it’s not too late to reconsider.

Exceed, it could be because of matters we are unaware of including niggling injuries. If next weekend is the final tune up game before the real deal starts I’d expect to see a closer structure to what may run out for round one. That’s barring perhaps 211 or any other senior player that may need to be game time managed more closely than some of the younger ones.

We all know Roly plays his favourites beyond their used by dates, it is my firm belief that D Pearce & Sutcliffe are playing for their round 1 spots, so be it, I’d rather that than have them front up in round 1 and cost us the 4 points, Logue, Hughes, S Hill, Fyfe are all certain starters so there’s no point risking them, aside from Brayshaw, Banfield, Cerra, Meek & Jones, it seems the rest of our draftees have been earmarked for more development through peel before they are considered for a senior call up, so there isn’t much point playing them in preseason.

Jezza, no-one thought GC17 won the trade for Weller, including the poor bastard who did the deal.

Freo had at least 3 of their best 22 out, not 2.
3 A graders, as opposed to 8 of whatever the best 22 of the slime equates to.

And a few decent players subbed out at half time. Hill, Fyfe and Hamling aren't too shabby either.

5 goal win against those flogs, no injuries and people still bitch and moan.

Bloody Richmond. Shane that is.

Sutcliffe and D Pearce didn’t get much of a run last year and it will be same again this year. The bus is full and the only way they’ll get on is through injuries. The practice matches may be their only AFL conditioning they get in the first couple of months of the year. Anyway that’s what I think is unfolding, we’ve got an even higher quality of fresh faces this year with Wilson, Matera(who is only just going at the moment) Banfield and Brayshaw. I imagine D Pearce was asked if he wanted to pull up stumps on his AFL career or play mostly WAFL and he chose to fight for a spot- he’s got a good attitude, shame he hasnt been able to fix his disposal.

I'm thinking/hoping that Cam & Dan are playing for their spots too. That they're given them a chance to prove themselves now because, at this stage, they're not down to play Round 1.

That must be it. Because if the coaches think they're in the best 22, I......just.......can't........fathom....

Stats are great things...can be construed in many ways. (Think Yeti has gone to work...so I think I can sneak this in...)

When Tabs starts 'clunking 'em' , then he's doing the thing we want.!!

If there's a stat out there telling us that Tabs is the best contested mark in the AFL , then so be it, and well done to him! But irrespective of stats, when I think of contested marks, I think of Joe Daniher jumping over blokes clunking 'em, or Reiwoldt backing back into packs to clunk em', or unfortunately, bloody Mcgovern just nudging his opponent aside to 'clunk it'.

And interestingly, this link : www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_ra...ear=2017&rt=LT&st=CM

tells me Tabs was ranked 42nd for contested marks (22m)....Mcgovern 1st with 61. -( Fyfefy best Docker with 38 (ranked 12th). )
But yes, certainly commendable that for all those who played 8 games, Tabs was the highest - (and higher than a lot who played 20+ games...!)

So, I'm not getting too excited until I see the boy bustin' through packs, and knockin' blokes over, and "jumpin' through them" to take a grab. You can show me all the stats in the world until then, but what we need Tabs to do is show some presence, and take some clunks!!!! Get that big body of his, and run over and through a few blokes on the way to getting the ball !!.

The great thing is, is that all the preseason reports from D/L's suggest he is exerting some influence on the game, and that's great to hear, and will be greater to see.!!!

I really hope he has turned the corner and finally worked it out.! And if he has, well, there'll be no stronger supporter of Tabs than me!! ( although taking out Yeti will take some doing, because he has far and away been Tab's greatest fan!)

The danger in comparing a Freo player, in this case Tabs, with any one of an ever increasing number of players from Other Clubs Over East is that you have to factor in the big bawling boofhead on the microphone factor.

Tabs is never gonna rate against that. No Freo player is.
