Funny, but the simplest training drill to run seems to be the one Freo avoids - the set shot for goal. It should be a mandatory session for all players that might have a ping during the season. Dead in front, 50 out - that's where you start. 10 degrees to the left, 10 to the right of centre. Kick 5 in a row and you move 10 more each side until you get to the boundary. Every week, one session for set shot kicking practice. By the end of the preseason it just becomes automatic. Get more realism into it by having a trainer stand the mark. Geez, It's not difficult.
I get really frustrated at the superhuman effort necessary to get the ball down for a set shot opportunity only to see it drift off for a point. I would think, why bother - I would be like Macca and tell the sod he's a useless piece of crap that needed to be better.
Unless there's weather about a shot for goal should end up as 6 points on the board. Get at it RoLy - you're the cobbler on this one, no good having shoes if they don't take you to where you're going. We've got a list that should put 20 on the board 3 or 4 games a season.
