Hamling, S. Hill, Logue, Darcy could have been handy.
Can't see D. Pearce or Sheridan being full strength either. Plenty of experience, but not good enough at this stage. Not sure about Grey either.
Giro, Banfield, Meek all seem okay, but hardly starting 22.

Not sure I'd be giving many ticks to a 'defensive mechanism' that handed over 4? 5? goals from turnovers inside the defensive 50.

Nor to a 'defensive mechanism' that even with a flooded defensive half allowed an uncontested mark in front of goal when we were trying to defend a lead with less than minute to play.

Nor indeed to a 'defensive mechanism that gave up 3 goals in under 2 minutes when we went defensive.

As for getting close to Adelaide, we simply didn't. We went ok when an Adelaide team missing many of their best players, took the foot off the pedal. When they got serious, we were not in the hunt....not even close.

Like I said Adelaide played with more grand finalists against a team who’ve brought in that number in new players. Still it’s JLT 1, this time last year we lost by 60+ to the slime.

I can never remember who wins or loses these preseason scratch matches - who really knows where each team is at until the season proper commences. But I will remember Fyfe back to his silky best, Brayshaw giving us glimpses as to why he was our number one, Alex Pearce working towards replacing Luke McPharlin as my favourite All Australian defender, Banfield knowing where to pop up to find the ball and Giro’s pup-like joy and enthusiasm. I shall let the cobblers get cobbling over the next couple of weeks.

We nearly beat Adelaide on a ground of SCG proportions with plenty of new blokes ...lots to like coming out of watching the game, Tabs, Wilson, Matera, Meek, Bradshaw etc and the effort was mostly good.

What I saw today given it’s a JLT game is that we are a team that couldn’t tighten up to win a winnable game with 3 minutes left to play. Adelaide sliced through us like a hot knife into warm butter and made us look ordinary in an away game. There is every chance that we will lose most of the away games and we need to Hope a lot to make the best of the new home ground advantage.
I’m usually very optimistic at this time of the year. I’d like to predict a top 4 finish or even a top 8 but realistically anything above 10 wins is a big tick for the year.

When has Fremantle ever played anything like decent foootball in WhoGivesaStuff Cups?

There's nothing to win and some don't bothering trying, but you could look like a cohesive team doing it. Other teams do.

FFC repeats history each year and goes into R1 looking like a team in perpetual bewilderment, or is it rebuilderment?

Why did Logue not play? I can only see one of Cox, McCarthy, Kersten playing. Given Cox will be squeezed out of the backline by Logue and Hamling he will need to challenge for forward line.

You know when the media pumps tyres when clearly Fyfe was best on ground. Looking at Gibbs SC scores and Fyfe’s, the headline is a little skewed. Let’s fly under the radar shall we.

If we're going to start the season with three tall forwards surely that would be McCarthy, Tabener and Darcy?

Well it seems like the best three to me anyway.

I think there was a called for Cox to play a key defensive post last year because he was drafted as a defender. Pretty sure he’d rather play forward.

Both sides turned the ball over a bit too much. Not sure that Gibbs is the elite by foot and hand player that his mates in the box make him out to be, in the second half when Freo applied a lot more pressure on the ball carrier, he took a lot of wrong options today which caused turnovers.
For all that we gave up that lead, for most of the second half the crows looked ordinary going into attack under solid midfield pressure, something that Brereton predicted. (Although he predicted it would not happen til the Granny). When the Crows put the pressure on in the last 3 minutes, Sandi in the centre would have made it a lot harder for them.

I liked our more direct and play on footy, use of the corridor and the kicking from defense of Wilson and Blakely in particular. A Pearce seems to have added some depth to his kicking, and playing Fyfe at CHF on a ground with a little bit more open space could expose defenses around the country. Matera has to do more to convince us, Ballas offers more than Matera showed today. and we need to find a lawyer who can prove to the umpires department that Walters DOES have a neck and head.

I'm pretty sure you don't get a game based on where you'd rather play and at this stage if all our big men are fit i don't see Cox in the starting 22 unless it's on the bench, which would be unusual as there's usually midfielders warming the pine.
