Perth Stadium has no history. For the record, footy had been played at Subi for over a century. The ALP government took that into consideration when the decided to build the new stadium at Subi - that and the fact it was the cheapest.

Seems to me preserving that connection would be more important than the sign on the door.

You might be glossing over a few things there, Morgan.

Subi started out with no history, so I don't see the historical link as anything more than a stretch. The biggest argument for using Subi came from WAFC, not from any football pan and check out who was buying land adjacent to where the WAFC wanted the new ground.

Subi was also under a cloud and had been for years due to the Council and residents wanting the oval 'NIMBY'.

It could not have been built without disrupting the use of the current ground for around 2 years and then the new one would have been disrupted for at least another year afterwards.

Burswood will be supported by a single train line as was Subiaco, so the public transport woes that people wave around are a bit of a furfy anyway.

The ideal place would have been East Perth, not Burswood and most certainly not Subiaco.

Barnett had weird priorities but he is clearly not the only one.

I am glossing over things yeti. As Drubbing says, a lot of this has been covered before. East Perth was also my preferred site for the stadium.

I just find it interesting that Barnett didn't care about the cost, didn't care about the expensive report that evaluated the different options, didn't care about the history at Subi, didn't care about driving punters through Packer's casino, didn't care about public transport to the stadium, didn't care about no-one being able to drive, didn't care about the risk of floods, didn't care where the footbridge was built etc etc.

But he did care it was called Perth Stadium, it had coloured lights, and you could see it on the drive from the airport.

As I said, he had some weird priorities.
