I'm genuinely surprised to learn that a number of Dockerland correspondents seem happy with, and embrace, the relentless corporate take-over of our lives and environment. I obviously belong to a minority that believes otherwise. I'll never warm to the change of stadium name, or the rubbish reasons put forward to excuse the decision, but I will learn to accept it. Maybe a future government will have more class than the present bunch and reverse the decision. That I could applaud.

A name only means something if it's got history and memories attached to it. That's why I always called Subi, Subi.

Perth Stadium is something only a disinterested committee could have come up with, to ensure it was as pointless and beige as possible.

Who knows if that footbridge will ever open. So call it PCH.

Geez...the whole afl is funded by advertising dollars. Optus just another link in the gravy train. Yeah I wish it wasn't corporatised and muddied by half arse fixturing...but it is what it is. Just detach from it and love the footy. Or...the amateurs is a pretty solid comp. And always on a Saturday...

The Perth Stadium name is ok for the stadium of the city Perth, but the real problem was naming the city Perth in the first place. (Who did that?) It's phonetically dreadful for an Australian accent. Maybe it works in Scottish, but more or less everything sounds dreadful in Scottish. Unfortunately it's too late to rename the city. I can't take corporate name purchases seriously either. On this basis, I'd recommend a solid attempt to get the Craypot into the popular imagination.

Jimb2, Captain Stirling favoured the name Hesperia (roughly translated from Greek mythology to mean facing the westward sun) for the colony that became Perth. He was overruled by the enormous ponce Sir George Murray, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, who having never been here, decided it was better named after his own home town in Scotland.

Perth is a dumb name. Perth Stadium is a dumb name. Optus Stadium is a dumb name that made the State Government $30 million. I can live with that.

They should have named it the Swan River Stadium. It would feel poignant when the SwanRiver is what floods the stadium in 30 years.
