Weller is quality make Gold Coast swap pick 2 and 24 plus Matera for our pick 5 and Lachie. We can then swap 24 to GWS for Wilson.

Didn’t make top 10 in the B&F. Take two second round picks (one next year if need be but GC do hold 21, 24 & 26 in this years draft).
Use this years to grab Wilson and keep 5 for best available whatever size that comes in.

Pick 21, 26 and Matera frm GC for Weller, 26 to GWS for Wilson.
We get our players and back into 2nd round for Weller.
GC get Weller who actually wants to play there and would probably be worth more if we held him for another year of development, they still have pick 24 and probably another low 20s for Gablet.
GWS get close to what they want for Wilson.

I don't get the idea of swapping our pick 5 for their pick 2 as part of the deal if the player we want is going to be available at 5 anyway. We get the same player and so achieve nothing.

Lets call this what it is, a disaster for Freo.

Weller along with Blakely and to a lesser extent Langdon was one of the three young amigos that were allowing us to swallow deplorable seasons like the last two. He is the core of the core of the rebuild and is personally about 4 years into his own development. To trade him out for a young draft pick no matter how good, is just winding back the clock three years and delaying us. Trading him for a good draft pick could lead to us recruiting another Weller type who is developing for 3 years and then starts to come good and then goes home again. deja vu. Meanwhile Fyfe and Walters turn into old men.

This talk of a straight swap for Wilson is also crazy. Three hours ago we were getting Wilson, keeping our pick 5 and keeping Weller. I cant actually see a win here for Freo no matter how we spin it.

This is all about developing a core group, in the same age bracket to open a window and have another crack at the big one ala 2013.

We shouldn't lose sight of how much the Suns are into this deal. They know how important Weller is to us and seriously how does a bloke suddenly get homesick for a place he spent a couple of years in his late teens and to a club that axed his brother. Freo have a very keen customer and should leaverage their desire accordingly.

Hard ball game- Freo have asked for pick 2 for Lachie. He has some real trade value and we need to drive that home. Hopefully 5 is not brought into it. I would be excited if we some how had 2,5 and Wilson out of this trade period.

Mark Evans and his team almost choked on their lunch when this was announced. So much so they've tabled an offer immediately. Pull the other one. The Suns ask the question but didn't expect the response I'm guessing. No question they'll part with they're pick 21 and Matera but Freo should also request they're 24 or their 28 as well. I think two second rounder plus Matera for Weller and our 41. We lose a player in our best 22 and gain 2 players for our best 22 perhaps. I think the GC need Weller more than we do.

Lachie Weller is worth a pick 6-10. He was a pick 13, has played almost 50 games and is a required first 18 player. Gold Coast have picks to move, so although its not ideal to lose him, if they can do the rgiht deal, we can win out of this.
