There is absolutely no evidence we turned down 4 second round picks for Weller. The anecdotal evidence is GC offered us one second rounder and Matera. No way is that a fair deal and the club is right to tell GC to get nicked.

The future first round is no good to us because you're losing a best 22 player now (who was pick 13) for someone you might pick next year who then takes time to develop.

Amazing posts on this forum, the club has been perenially bludgeoned for not being hard enough and continually paying overs for recruits and now when they draw a line in the sand and stand up to a big con job they are being criticised for being to stubborn and unreasonable. Come on guys, a bit of consistency would be nice.

Come on Flag, why would they offer all that to WC to try and secure a pick they thought would the Weller trade done and not offer it to us first!

the only reason is we said Pick 2 and then stuck our fingers in our ears and said "Lalalalala" until they walked away.

A lot of talk about a possible top 20 pick coming to Gold Coast as part of Ablett deal, maybe this may be in play for Weller but still not top 4. How would a first rounder from next year sit given the believed strength of that draft?

Ablett may still not happen but Geelong currently has picks 19 and 22 this year but the way clubs like to trade picks anything can happen. If we keep Weller his value in next years draft may rise or fall but the fact still remains that Gold Coast want him this year. On another point for those querying our tough stance have a read of Nathan Wilson's comments on how he approached GWS for a trade. All class, genuine and treating his current club openly and with respect. Contrast this with Weller approach, brokering a deal behind clubs back and giving inaccurate expectation of his commitment to our club. He deserves the contempt he is receiving.
