If GC won't give up Martin or pick 2, keep Weller for another 12 months during which time the Weller/Martin swap will mature nicely and a deal can be done in 12 months. Weller will still have currency like McCarthy did. I have to say, however , based on that interview Weller must have a small brain.

I'm with 7hoursbehind and others on this one, we should play hardball and he should have kept his mouth shut on his opinion on the trade price. If he thinks he's not worth a first round pick he shouldn't take the first round salary that;s been rumoured to have been offered to him. The other thing that is really annoying is that it took until early in second round of trade period for him to ask for a trade and this has impacted on our other trades. I'd make him stew on this and we do need to make a stand on this occasion.

Trade period ends 11am AWST. Giants are holding out on the Wilson deal to see if they can squeeze more out of Freo ( current 2018 2nd rounder). So Wilson will get to us regardless and so will Matera. There is no need for Freo to blink first in the Weller case. If I was Weller's management, I'd be requesting Suns part with their 2 pick. Or his client would wish he'd have been coached through that interview earlier today.

Gee Jezza, that's tighter than I thought. I got my time zones mixed up there. The other thing with Matera is that we could also pick him up in the pre season draft as I believe he's out of contract and probably going to be delisted.

Where is all the “good will” we have built up with Gold Coast? Last year we traded our future second round pick for pick 36, that turned out to be this years pick 22 (now 24 with the two compo picks at 18 & 19) surely our past relationship building means something now! Otherwise what’s the point? For what it’s worth I still think 3x second rounders is worth more than pick two two as it gives us the flexibility to pick up Wilson and get two quality players through the draft. I believe this is what is stalling the Wilson trade as our future second rounder next year may we’ll be in the 30s and GWS know that.

Edit: we now have 10 vacancies on our list and I’d rather players from the 20s filling those spots than those in the 70s
