Im a bit confused by all this...surely there was trade sweetener value in a couple of them??....now someone gets them for free.
Surely we go into trade week with them as an option for trade? Clarke obviously doesnt think its over, and Deluca, and Collins both have footy left on them.
And then give Sheriden another year????!!!

I'm always perplexed with the idea of a player being a trade sweetener. I'm not sure if sprinkling a bit of Zac or Sam on top of another trade would make it any better. I love our players, but if they're a list clogged in a bottom 5 side then they will probably be a list clogger elsewhere too. Also Sam isa terrific young man and will be successful in most things he will do in the future

Zac never was the same player after he injured his knee a few years back. I remember early on in his time with us that he was actually more advanced in his rucking ability than Naitanui was at the same stage and everyone was banging on how good Naitanui was and not much was said about Zac's ability. Without his knee injury he would have been a much better player and most likely still on the list.

Even though Ross now seems to play only one ruckman more than two in most games I would be surprised if we didn't pick up another ruckman in his mid 20's for extra cover.

I have been asking the same question and I still don’t understand the reasoning behind it. Even a late third or fourth round pick has points attached to it, won’t we need points going forward now that we have an academy?
DeBoer, Barlow, Silvagni and Mzungu all ended up at other clubs and played senior football. Why were they worth nothing?

As a free agent we could have been given a compo pick based on the contract offered to Zac, as a delisted free agent we get nothing. He wasn't going to cost another club anything (in terms of picks) so why would we delist him and give up a compo pick? It makes no sense whatsoever

There may be a more complicated reason, but not all free agent signings result in compensation. For example, when Waite left Carlton for North as a free agent, Carlton were not compensated.

Freo would need to table an offer to Clarke in order to even have a chance at compensation. I'm not sure what the minimum permissible offer is (my guess is the AFLPA has a listed veteran's minimum in their collective bargaining agreement) but perhaps Freo were worried that Clarke would take any offer and therefore be paid to take occupy a list spot. If there is only a small chance of compensation, then it's probably not worth the risk.

I'm laughing at the fact 5 clubs are interested in Zac Off. He's done absolutely bugger all in 8 years, the last 2 being his worse. Exert little pressure, not a great mark and can't kick goals. He was due for a delisting 12 months ago had it not been for Freo's goodwill to fix his injury. Suffice to say when he stuffed up during a music festival, his career went south. Sean Darcy is going to be a mega star. Sandi is just there to carry his boots. As a backup, we've got Cox and now TABs.
