The way Tabs finished the year I think he could be everything we need at full forward so why do we really need Hogan. I'd sooner grab the smartest midfielder on offer and keep building up our midfield depth. We wont be ready to challenge for 2 years so why not wait and see how Tabs, Apeness, Macca, Cox and Kersten go next year with hopefully a strong midfield feeding them with Matera, Grey and Son Son kicking 5 or 6 goals between them most weeks.

2018 is no longer a wait and rebuild year. Whether we get Hogan or not, it's finals time. It's mirroring the 2008-2010 seasons. In '08 &'09, we drafted some incredible talent. Hill, Walters, Roberton, Fyfe and Mora just to name a few. It was the start of our premiership window in 2010. Avg age against Hawks in an elimination final was 23yrs. We all know what happened in 2011 before 2013 our first GF. The recruiters nearly pulled it off. The similarities this time around is uncanny and even if we still had pick 5, I've got no doubt he'll be a mid ready for a hell of a debut year. Hogan or not, it's wharfie time.

To get an idea of what will get you in the market for Jesse Hogan, look at it from the perspective that Adelaide are asking for Jake Lever (uncontracted) two first round draft picks. If Melbourne are contemplating this, they're going to want more for Hogan, who is contracted for two more years and plays a much more difficult position.

Getting Lever would also be aimed at catapulting them into contention. Losing Hogan would undo that almost equivalently. They'd either need a nearish replacement in the deal, or something to trade for one.

No bargains here, in fact you're bound to pay overs (just to get into the market).

Neale is our best midfielder. You still need those guys to kick it to the big forward. If you don't have a midfield, it doesn't matter if you have Yahweh at full forward, it wont get to him. I think pick 5 and promise not to let Sheridan and Sutcliffe play AFL again and that should be enough. Crozier to stay.

With Mundy reaching the end there is a real need for another inside midfielder. Balic would have been ideal. So to suggest trading Neale to get Hogan is bizarre. The Dockers need to add midfield depth, not diminish it.
