The Dockers performed best last year when Fyfe, Mundy and Neale all played well. If Mundy is on the way out the midfield looks thin. The focus should be on midfielders and Wilson rather than selling the farm to get Hogan. McCarthy and Taberner can hold down the key forward roles, especially with better service .

Un ..... believable, over for the last 7 years the recruiters have been slammed for recruiting midfielders, and urged, begged and pleaded with to recruit by any means possible a key forward, and lambasted again for recruiting key backmen and trying to turn them into forwards.

The word hits the streets that one of the more promising current young forwards may be looking to head to Freo, and there are a couple of promising young KPF's in the draft and D/L is saying forwards are overrated, we have to recruit midfielders.

I know I am not the brightest light in the room, but you would need one of those spotties off a WB Holden ute to show the consistency in that line of thinking.

Let's recap. Mitch Clark, Franklin, Hooker, Cloke, Aaron Black, Mitch Mcgovern. And that's only what's been reported. Cammac had to sit out for 12 months before joining. I hope Hogan will be wearing purple but unless he walks, there's no hope in hell we're likely to get a gun forward. I don't think we should be selling the farm to get one either. Melb are not giving up much ( pick 10 and future 2nd round) for Lever. IMO he's better than Hogan in their respective positions with less baggage. If we don't get him for pick 5 only, no big deal. Go to the draft and get another Fyfe, Martin or Danger type players because they'll win you more games then lose.

Richmond didn’t have a gun forward or ruck and won the GF. Get enough players with decent skill and mindset and that’ll get you in the top eight.

Blakely and plenty of our other young guys will have a big 2018, we’ve got a lot to be optimistic about.

Riewoldt was excellent on the day. Big pack marks, but kicked 2.3. He was the best forward out there.

I'm with Raglan Matt. I can't believe all these people who now say we don't need a decent forward.

We were completely outmarked in our forward entires all year and in a number of games took less than five marks in our forward 50 for the whole game. If you think that's going to improve next year by drafting a young midfielder you're kidding yourself.

Tabener was the only guy who looked like taking a mark and some of you are saying we should let him go too. McCarthy battled to hold a mark and both he and Kersten hardly troubled the scoreboard or statisticians.

Draft as many midfielders as you like but you still need a balanced squad and that includes forwards. They kick the majority of the goals, not midfielders.

How come forwards lead the goal kicking each year?
Midfielders that kick goals are great but why then are key forwards so desirable in drafts?

CA winning Coleman medals don't win you premierships. Adl, best scoring team in recent memory failed to get the chocolates. Jake Stringer, who barely kicks a bag together with Tom Boyd who's a $1M player, who hardly kicks a bag got it done for the Dogs. Buddy Franklin couldn't help Sydney win a premiership. You get 3-4 Fyfe type players, you're on your way to glory. You need a spread of goalkickers ( like 10 of them), which Richmond had, to taste glory. Enough of the Key forwards that we desperately need. I'll take 22 (190cm mids) any day of the week.

While our team has players of the ilk of Sheridan, Sutcliffe and Suban consistently getting games we will continue to struggle to get the ball out of our D50 and move it through the midfield.
This needs to addressed ASAP or any forward will struggle.

For some crazy reason every AFL side in the history of the game thinks you need a spread of forwards, midfielders and backmen but you think we just need 22 midfielders. How come no other coach has ever done this?

All this after you've been spruiking in the last few weeks how we should make sure we should get Hogan?!?!

Only if he wants out. I'm pretty sure we've tried last year reportedly, Hogan will help but he ain't no Pav. I'm saying why sell the farm when we don't have to.
The game has evolved. The prototypes are the Fyfes, Dangers and Martins of this world. Leave them in the forward line and they'll kick a bag.
