I do feel dirty just thinking of it sqizzy.
I watched Lachie closely when he first come over playing for Swan Districts and instantly loved him, those quick hands and chunky calfs!

It's funny you mention that Joe. I watched Griff in a couple of games last year where they had him running through the midfield and he looked a bit Pav like. He's the same size and I think with the right guidance he could follow the same development as Pav, starting as a defender then going into the midfield and finally further developing into the champion we've all grown to love up forward. It's early days people, get off his back and he will develop well. It's also worth noting that he was a late starter to AFL so he is still learning.

Melbourne are going to try to use Watts to leverage the Lever deal. Can't see them trading Hogan

Watts for Lever would make Mayne for B Hill seem like a fair deal.

As it stands, Lever going to Melb is a coup for them. In his 3rd year, was in the AA squad of 40 or just outside. Adelaide's request of 2 first rounder is a reasonable ask. Hogan on the other hand, while touted to be something special, hasn't really lived up to it, not to Lever's standards anyway. We've got Balic that Melb are also interested in. If ever Hogan was going to come home, it'll be in this trade period. His currency is Melbourne's bargaining chip to attract our No.5 pick. I can't see it playing out any other way.

One is an out of contract second or third tall who plays as an intercepting defender. The other is a contracted key forward with a goals per game average as good as any of the modern greats in his first few years.

I know which one I think is more valuable.

Flag, hard to argue with that assessment, but 2 first round draft picks (even if one is our 2018 one) plus a player of the potential of Balic - just seems overs for Hogan, IMHO.

Melbourne also need to bear in mind if Hogan does decide to return home at the end of his current contract in 2019 - they will never get anything like the above. Should Melbourne miss finals in 2018 that might speed things up.

I would have though our pick 5, Balic and a second rounder (either from trading this season or our next year’s one) would be acceptable. Two first rounders plus Balic I think is overs and puts way too much pressure on the young man to be our new messiah.

I'm not advocating two first round picks and Balic (or an equivalent) for Hogan. All I'm saying is he's worth more than pick 5 and I think he's worth more than what it takes to get Lever to Melbourne.

That being said, two first round picks is overs for Lever but Melbourne may well be prepared to offer it if Adelaide play hard enough.

Adelaide may be asking for two first round picks but will probably need to settle for slightly less, also pick 17 & 18 are very different to say 5 & 12. I am not saying that these are the picks that will be used just using them to make the point. Whatever the value of Lever, this is very much unknown. I would agree with Flag that Hogan is more valuable.
All of the consideration being given to trading in Hogan still needs to take into consideration his salary and what impact this will have on other list decisions, he would possibly command a similar salary as his captain or Neale. I am not sure a situation similar to Tom Boyd at the Buldogs is ideal.
Last year I ended being quite happy trading our first pick but still maintaining a position in the top ten, trading our way completely out the first round is another proposition and one that needs to be considered carefully, particularly as we currently have no second round pick. Initially I would have said absolutely get the deal done but I have to admit I am quite impressed with Wilson. I am personally more of the belief that class and pace are our biggest deficit.

I think we should offer Melbourne pick 5 Tabs and Balic for Hogan, if they don't take it then we keep pick 5 ,offer Tabs a two year contract extension on good money and trade Balic for the highest pick we can get (something in the 20's I would think) .

Trade Crozier for 2nd round pick- offer that pick to gws for Wilson

Offer gcs pick 55 for Matera.

Use pick 40, 58 and 77 on the best available talent left

This is an interesting scenario we’re beginning to find ourselves in.

Let’s, for argument sake, assume Hogan stays put and the draft picks we get for Balic & Crozier are enough to settle the Wilson & Matera trades. My position here is ambivalent to Tabs staying or going.

There is a strong argument that we need to recruit a quality KPP - but there’s an equal and opposing view that large-bodied, highly skilled and quick midfielders are the new must-haves.

Based on our list, I think we have the second category in hand and need a KPP (most likely Brander).

I base that on our existing engine room of Fyfe, Neale, the Hill brothers and Walters (Mundy only has a year left so not including him). Add in young blokes like Blakely, Weller, Tucker, Langdon and an x-factor like Bennell and I reckon all those years of drafting ‘skinny, Victorian midfielders’ (sarcastica font enabled) is paying off. Like others, I think Logue will move into the middle and his pace and size will add another dimension to our team - much like Mora did for his all so brief career

Of course, if Brander is gone by pick 5 then, without sounding to wanky about it, grab the next best available talent. But I’d like to see us add to our big men stocks either through the draft or via trades - those who are under 25. We did extremely well last year in that department.
