Fyfe is as close as you'll get to Martin and having him didn't help us like Martin did. You still need someone to kick goals.

Riewoldt would have won it on his own if he kicked straight. Took either two or three huge pack marks and was the best forward on the day.

Walker did his best in the second half to get his team back into the game. Unfortunately he had to go up the ground on long leads to take a number of marks and consequently couldn't hit the scoreboard.

You need a balanced side otherwise going by your reckoning you would just have a complete side of midfielders. We are not balanced. We leaked a massive amount of goals this year and as usual could hardly kick any ourselves.

I would say Darcy is an exception.

If you look at All-Australian ruckmen, a disproportionate percentage come from the rookie list. I think it's because trying to determine which gangly 17 year old will be a coordinated 22 year old is pretty tough.

I'd just fill my rookie list with really tall blokes and see which ones you could turn into a footy player. If you take enough swings you'll eventually get a useful ruckman.

Sam Hayes might not be a bad option. He kicked 6 goals earlier in the year and seems to play well as a forward. Hayes might be a bit like 2 metre Peter from the Gold Coast. Interesting to see Brander playing in defence in the All-Stars game on the weekend.

Sandi has been a champ for us and has been the difference many a time, but I don't reckon we need to stock up on tall ruck/forward types. Our weakness has been our disposal, especially going inside 50. You can have Pav or anyone else but if the kicks are not coming in at least to the advantage of the forward, we're stuffed. And so often it comes in so the backs look good in mopping up out of our forward line. I mean, Hurn I think got his most disposals for the year against us. HURN!!! Ok, we probably need better coordination amongst our forwards, and that may come...but delivery is so important...and we need to get that right. Ryan, Weller, Blakely are adding some of that skill but we could do with more. Gone are the days when Sheridan and Sutcliffe are our best options off half back with the ball in hand.

Ruckman/forwards have low success rates, and are generally a fantasy pick for clubs who think they're somehow going to get two for the price of one. Almost never do.

We've got our ruck situation pretty much sorted, I hope - so lets get the power forward we need (maybe Hogan, maybe Tabs) and get to work on building the league's premiere (and premier) midfield.

Getting Nathan Wilson and Harley Bennell in the line-up will help our ball use.. They are probably some of the the better kicks in the whole comp.. I wouldn't mind getting another midfielder in, when you have pick 5, you just have to have a crack at getting a superstar.. Just put them in order and cross them off, the top 7 players will probably be midfielders.
