You won't get Wilson for a future second rounder.
They will want a future 1st rounder for someone who's been in their starting 22 for the last two years.

Another thing to consider is that Z Clarke & Suban are free agents so we may get third round compo picks (early 40s for us) if someone takes a punt on them.

Future 2nd rounder seems right to me. That's a pick in the low 20's based on this years result. You don't give a pick that's likely to be between 1-8 for a running back flanker I dont care how good he is. Next years draft is supposed to be the strongest in years.

When do the first of our academy picks start coming through, and will we need to accumulate picks for points like GWS have been doing?

I have a feeling the first of them may be available next year. Couple that with next year's draft being rated much higher than this year's* and it will be interesting to see how we value future picks versus this year's picks.

Jason Carter, gun midfielder from Broome via Claremont colts is our academy target for this year. Missed the State carnival with a knee injury but I'm not sure how we go about getting him in the draft.

If Jason Carter is a gun, then I guess he'll be on everyone's radar. So Freo needs to keep their powder dry if he's to come to the club. I'd suggest him not playing in the U18s will deter some clubs but most would have enough Intel on whether to pick him or not early or otherwise on the night. I'd say we're in the box seat to pick Carter up.

I've heard he's an absolute crab who gets into fights at nightclubs and has dodgy elastic in his pants at late night kebab joints.
That should do it.

The interest in letting Weller go is surprising. He's a first round draft pick with skill and pace and this year he gained consistentcy and is easily in the top 22. Of all the younger group he's the next most likely to become an elite player and it could be as soon as next year if he's played more in the midfield. They'd be fools to trade him.

There are a few players with the ability Weller has in the squad. If he is what we need to trade to get a Hogan or Wilson, a type of player that Weller is not, trade him. I would gladly trade Sutcliffe and Sheridan, but I don't think they will get the deal done.

What I find hard to believe in the article earlier in this thread, is that Melbourne would be willing to trade out both Watts and Hogan. Both first round picks and Hogan one of only half a dozen genuine key forwards in the competition. Who will this leave to play forward for them Peterson. Their fan base will go crazy in future years as they build a game based around midfielders and defence having traded away the most important commodity in football forwards.
I don't know how we can expect to get Wilson for a future second round pick and then expect equivalent of a second round pick for Balic. This based on the Hogan for pick five and Balic post.
I struggle to see us being able to get Wilson, Matera, Hogan and Carter (if he is as good as some seem to think) to the club this year particularly as we have no second round pick as we speak. If we do, our recruiting team could be considered genius.

Eventually Wilson requests trade! 6 years 6 months ago #54

Eventually
I will be very surprised if Melbourne let Hogan go, he owes them and they need him. Having said that if Bond does pull off what would be a remarkable trade then there is no room for Tabs which would leave me to suspect that he would be offered up for an early Round 2 pick to secure Wilson, not a bad outcome at all.

Clubs recruiters are suggesting that this year's trade period will involve many contracted players changing clubs. Therefore why signed contracts, a legal document. Clearly they're not water tight. As for Melb and Hogan, he's their pawn to getting Lever. Hogan holds the ace in the pack. He's got a chance to return home early if that's his goal. It's now or in 2 years time. It's Hogan's call and no one else.

They are water tight if the club sees merit in keeping the player, Jezza.

I dont mean to get all Robert Walls here but life is tough and some of these homesick fellas need to build some resilience.

You nominate for this life.
