I agree this year pick 5 should be kept and used for a star whatever size, if that's a key forward so be it.
I really like the look of Wilson off half back but we should achieve that by other means. I may be wrong but my memory of most of the big forwards being taken high in the draft the are earmarked well out, ie Tom Boyd and Buddy. If Brander is in this category and a genuine forward then so be it, if he is a back then we have enough promising talls to not speculate on another.
I think it would be a mistake to inflate a big forward into the top ten based upon our need. We need class and speed to maintain possesion and deliver the ball effectively into the forward line as much as a big forward. I am sick of watching any chance at cohesive football be destroyed by turnovers in transition.
I think there is the possibility of a functioning forward line with Kersten, MCCarthy and Taberner as the bigs. Not star studded but various avenues.

If we continue to play Brennan Cox as a forward to complement Cammac, Kersten/Tabs and have the likes of Ballas, Son Son and Bennell buzzing I50, surely that puts a smile on your face. Then the problem is Darcy and Sandi in the ruck. But Pick 5, this draft is in the lap of the gods. Is Brander/or someone else going to break in our 22 next year. I think not. Is Wilson/Matera/Hogan/? going to play in Rd. 1 barring injury, I say yes. Will pick 5 be used to get those mentioned, perhaps not but the rebuild is now a distant memory.

I remember there was some talk in the past about letting clubs trade players and picks during draft night. I think this is a perfect example where Freo should keep pick 5 in case there is a key forward available, but could consider trading it (or trading down) if a blue-chip KPP wasn't available. Sadly, Freo will need to make a call based on the chances of (for example) Brander being available at #5.

So this is the issue I have bleating about on here for years - if you have a specific need then you need to use trade week to improve your draft pick. IF we need a key forward, and IF there are only 3 that fit the bill, then we have to move heaven and earth to trade pick 5 for pick 3. We can't keep leaving it in someone else's control as to whether the player we want is available. I think we have been far too complacent in the past in accepting our pick, and then using that as an excuse for why we haven't drafted a KPP previously.

I know everyone is mad keen on Brandor but Darcy Fogarty is also a good option at 192cm, Brandor is only 194cm, Fogarty is physically stronger, can kick further, tackle better and is all round more bloody exciting from what I have seen. I have only seen a few games though. He is the same size as Pav and does sort of remind me of him. I will be interested to see what Brad Lloyd says this week on road to the draft podcast and see if we can get a read on the kids he's considering.

If Brisbane don't use their number one pick on Connor Ballenden, We should use our number 5 pick on him ,either they lose him to us or match our bid and we move up the order for later picks.

If they take him then we pick up Brander if available.
