LoyalSupporter , You've read my mind.
I will remain a member but without seat option as I feel there will be plenty available next year when I want to go.
I don't think they'll be able to thank their 52,000 members on next years banner.

I'd like to see the auditing of that figure of 52,000. Surely they're counting anyone who bought a cap?

It's hard to get an honest statistic from the afl on membership. It should really just be a person who has bought a full season pass to every game. It's why Hawthorn have 50000 members but get 25000 to some games.

I think they will see a bigger drop off in paid up seat renters the year after next. I think most might give the new stadium, transport and facilities a shot first and see if there is any value in renting a seat for the season before making a more educated decision the following year.
The caveat on that of course is that they don't go ballistic on the increases (nobody is expecting the cost to remain the same or less in spite of supply probably exceeding demand).
It's almost the perfect storm - selling a new facility, increasing seat prices, an economy on go slow and a footy team which on the face of it has a coach who is out of touch with the modern game, players struggling for motivation and a short term vision that nobody wants to buy into. I like watching footy, I used to like supporting Freo and I probably will continue to do so but for the life of me I cannot see any value in remaining a member at the moment (but thanks for the $5 towards my next Freo experience - fan appreciation round is awesome).
I wasn't sad to see the end of Subi yesterday and not all of it was to do with the footy stadium.

Numbers will definitely take a hit next year due to the increased availability of seats and poor form. I have 4 tickets and have been the only one to attend in the last couple of weeks as the kids have lost interest. They'll need to consider their pricing of memberships as a huge increase would make me consider pulling the pin or going down to just 2 memberships. We sit with 2 other families which is the main tricky bit for us. If I only had one or two seats any increase would make me consider cancelling and just rocking up on game day.

my term of membership goes back to the first ever game, along with my dad, mum, brother, wife and kids and sisters and their kids..Dad and my brother have passed away but collectively, my family and friends group up to around 20 odd attendees per game.....We have been supporting this club for along time and probably plonked in over $100,000 in member fees since inception!! But, the current team and coach are deplorable....A few players can play obviously,
but before we commit to any membership matter for 2018, i want the club to convince me that we wont be the flogging boys for the other teams and that our team will be competitive in every contest, even when we lose a game!
The finish to this year so far is a joke....and ross lyon's boring attitude has lost me....No passion for his team resonates in every after game speech....Fed up with the crap dished out to supporters and members

Who would want to deal with the media but RL needs to read the situation as a whole and do better. Looking and acting angry isn't the answer.

I’d never judge people for how they choose how to spend their limited discretionary time and money. Life can be hard, and you need to find enjoyment where you can. Sitting though guff like yesterday is a mug’s game.

I also don’t have a lot of love in my heart for the current Freo admin, and I can understand people not wanting to tacitly support them by stumping up for a membership. If you wouldn’t feel any different relinquishing your membership after two abysmal years, then jumping back on when we’re good again, I reckon go for it.

But, for better or worse, I’m a sucker and I’ll be a member for life. There’s not much I can do to support my club but pay my membership every year and turn up every week. That’s what I’ll continue to do. Sure, we’ll suck for a few years, but for me that prelim win in 2013 felt sweeter for having always stuck thick with the team. It wouldn’t have felt the same had I, for example, jumped off during the Drum years, and jumped back on once we started winning again.

If I did, the Eagles fans I know (the ones I haven’t been able to cut out of my life) would say I was a bandwagon fan. Would they be wrong? Sure, I could say ‘Lyon this’, and ‘Rosich that’, but I never entertained that argument from them about Ken Judge, so I can’t convince myself it’s a good enough reason to jump off.

Hopefully it will be worth it when we win a premiership in 2037.

Karl Marx said "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people".

I've always thought that in Australia this applies to AFL.

I want FFC to know that next year I want a better class of opium

So there.

Hastily edited to say I will keep being a member and going to games for the rest of my life

Move to Thailand
Become an overseas member
Stay member and avoid having to watch games like Sunday's live
Admittedly getting to GF in 13 was a little more expensive but looks like I won't need to pay again for some years

Morgan, the scary part of that is that Ken Judge was proved right.

If they increase the membership fee to payout some of the coaching contracts, I am damn sure I am jumping on board with that.

In the past 5 years or so have you ever been to a WAFL GF at Subi? Well, that's how the new stadium will look when Fremantle are playing - a group of supporters on the midfield flank, a few nutters behind the goals and a scattering of hobos around the outer. Just get into Barney's Emporium and you'll have your choice between 35 - 40,000 fold-downs.
