With every loss there's another excuse. The bigger the loss the more outlandish the statements. You can generally find the following dished up at some stage.
i. we are so young and inexperienced..........fact is we have the third oldest list in the competition
shar.es/1S1YV3
ii. we're cooked.........why? Other sides have nothing to play for, are less experienced but not capitulating on a regular basis.
iii. Other sides have so many early draft picks.............Adelaide, Richmond, Port, Geelong haven't.
iv. Other clubs players have great grounding in VFL..........so what? We have our own stand alone team as well.
v. Wouldn't make any difference who the coach is.............why after being 0-5 last year did we fly the white flag. Sydney were 0-6 this year and never contemplated giving up. Why do we get such huge losses so often compared to other lowly teams?
vi. Our skills let us down..............we've known that for years and nothing has changed. Why?
vii. You make statements for the sake of making them without actual facts.
eg. Gold Coast are laden with top end talent......who would that be?
We had 7 first year players.........we actually had 5 and the opposition had 3.
We've blown leads when we've been in commanding positions........we haven't been in a safe, commanding, match
winning lead all year.
Sydney are angry because they lost a grand final and are out to make amends, What's that got do with anything? So did we!!! Also eagles and we both won't be or didn't make amends.
They had over 1500 games of experience...........them 2503, us 2030. What about when we got thrashed by Brisbane?
Everyone agrees(I think)that we have some good promising young players coming through, but who's to say our coach is actually getting the best out of them? Coaches and teams with less experience might have a couple less wins but they're not getting the thrashings we do. Yesterday was the worst loss of Lyon's career.
Nothing can ever be said against the board, the coach or the game plan. Why? Because the coach got us to a grand final!!! This appears to be the only answer given.
Why then if he's such a great coach did we fall faster than any team in AFL/VFL history? If that's the basis to coach on why aren't Eade, Malthouse, Williams or Wallace still coaching?
Why did the boards at Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney who have coaches with real success not reward their successful coaches with 5 year contracts?
We have a right to ask why we keep getting these massive losses, not just a bunch of excuses that imo don't really stack up.
