Did you watch the last 10 games of that Minor premiership season? Excruciating football. No dominance, no flair, no structure. Just grinding out narrow wins. And how did we fare in finals that year? They were cooked simply getting there.

And that's with all those experienced blokes we tossed out last year.

And you still think FFC central is the ducks nuts? They're a bunch of pollies working in election cycle promises, and back flipping as necessary along the way.

Drubbing we had plenty of blue collared workers that toiled away that weren't highly skilled. In 2015, Sandi, Mcpharlin, Johnson, Walters and Ballas all missed plenty of games yet made the prelim and if hadn't been for Fyfe broken leg and Sheriden's howler, we would've have played in another GF. What we have currently are better skilled players and youthful exuberance that'll paved the way, I've got no doubt.

We need some predictions gentlepeople. I gather that on one side we have people lined up saying that Under Roly we are going nowhere and will probably finish in the bottom 4 next year. And on the other side we have people who think that things are looking up and we'll be pretty close to making the top 8 next year.

Now those down on Roly, there is one thing you can't do. You can't turn around when our fortunes improve and say that its because Roly changed how he did things.

Now because I'm a gullible softy I'm more inclined to side with Jezza and think that we are on the way up. I'm saying we'll be 6 - 10 next year.

Yeah RR,

I dont think we'll be bottom four but we won't make the eight unless Lyon does chamge the way he does things.

Less defense only, more forward structure, less kicking backwards, more emphasis on skills, hitting leads and more outside play not congested only.

If he can't change, then yes we might well improve but will never win the chocolates on the GF day

I've always found "We won't win a premiership with xxxx" statements to be dodgy. Because there are 18 teams in the comp, and most of them are hoping to win the cup each year. I still recall someone saying that Geelong wouldn't win a flag with Ablett senior in the team. They were right, of course. But equally well you could have said that the Saints wouldn't win a premiership with Lockett, and you'd have been right. But if you'd gone all outlandish and said that the Hawks wouldn't win a premiership with Spanger, you'd have been wrong. I've someone had said that the Eagles wouldn't win one with Rowan Jones, they'd have been wrong.

But go on. Give a 4 position range for Freo for next year.

There's no way Fremantle will make the eight next year. 4 of our wins were by under a goal and could have gone either way. Yeah we lost a couple of close ones but really the ladder flatters us. Bottom four is where I think we are at now and that is where we will finish next year.
Having said that we are on track to eventually be a pretty good side but it's going to take till at least 2019 before we challenge for the eight. That will be when we have a heap of players in the 70+ games bracket all pushing through at the same time. It also depends in finding a full forward who can kick at the very least 40+ a year.

You're not serious Goodie. Kennedy is going to win back to back Coleman and they're further away from a premiership then us. Pav was kicking 70+ goals and he's since departed without a gong. I won't go into how premiership teams are built but suffice to say, it's built over a few pre-seasons which includes finding the right coach and players and sticking fat.

" I won't go into how premiership teams are built but suffice to say, it's built over a few pre-seasons which includes finding the right coach and players and sticking fat."

Luke Beveridge won a premiership in his second season and Chris Scott in his first. The right coaches at the right time? Just lucky? No need to stick fat there. Astute boards and good judges?

How long do you stick fat for? How do you know when you've got the right coach? I always thought Sanderson did a good job at Adelaide but he got the boot. Same for Ratten at Carlton.

Gold Coast ran out of patience. Simpson is on thin ice. Buckley is touch and go.

Having a five year contract certainly helps Roly, certainly not his coaching record for the last two years and the finals the year before.

I'm optimistic for next year.

Walters, Collins and A.Pearce to come back. Hopefully Stephen Hill can get his shoulders sorted.

Weller, Blakely, Hughes, Tucker, Logue and Grey are improving. Cam Mac and Kersten have been getting it together, but extremely slowly. They couldn't get near it in the first half-dozen rounds. Tabs will hopefully stay - I like him.

Darcy - outstanding prospect - lets hope we don't break him.

Fist and D Pearce will be departures.

The drop-off toward the end of the season is a huge concern - fitness??

I just wonder if that BS Hardie fabricated was the feature article in the rag the players read on the flight over to Sydney...

Could explain things.

I keep harping back to the youth of our team which after 20 AFL games in 2017, many are calling it an insipid performance on the weekend. The facts are on average we're 500-600 games short of where we need to be to contend. Though I'm not convinced of that stat. And perhaps 12 months younger on average against opposition sides we've played. As it stands, if our leaders in Fyfe, Neale,Mundy and Hill don't stand up in the midfield, we're vulnerable. That quartet if overpowered our young team becomes vulnerable. So yeah, on the weekend we were obliterated in the midfield in the first half and that was the story. Other then Neale, the other 3 have missed games due to injury. Neale is now running on empty and unless they can somehow find something extra for the remaining 2 games, our work rate will decline further. Bring on mad Monday.
