I honestly dont think Roos was really trying to bag the Dockers per se. What he was doing was providing cover and a cop out for his good mate Rosco.
By continually harping on about work rate, combined with Ross` comments at quarter time saying "you cant coach that" referring to lack of work rate, it was mainly about absolving Roly from the carnage.
We slip over more than any other team in the comp. That can be coached.
We allow that first kick from the back pocket by the opposition to be switched, every time, by merely guarding space but not close enough to tackle. If you covered that option that would force them to kick long down the line and any time you reduce the oppositions options they become more predictable and easier to play against. That can be coached.
When we are being slaughtered out of the middle and at bouncedowns you can revert to man on man. That can be coached.
Every time Griffen gets the ball he goes sideways or backwards, mainly because hes young and inexperienced and doesnt want to take the risk of going forward. That can be coached.
D Pearce turned over every single kick he had today. If its a one off you can just coach it. If its every game for three years then you deal with it at selection table.
C Sutcliffe cant tackle, has no strength and Ive seen only take 3 contested marks in his career. Thats selection panel.
Why is D Pearce and C Sutcliffe taking kick outs every now and again. They are turnover merchants. Select your best kick and give them the role. This is just poor coaching.
Tabs takes a few marks, 30 m out, takes two steps and stabs at the ball and misses two sitters that a guy in his position just has to take. Later on he takes 5 steps. That lack of repeatable method, whereby every time he should do the Ben Brown/Jason Dunstall run up, is coachable.
Cam McCarthys ridiculous swinging ball drop is going to cost us a final one day. Hes been in the team all year. Why havent the coaches sorted it out.
Pav correctly said a week or so ago, Ballas goes in too fast, he just needs to steady in those last two steps so he doesnt fall over. Ballas continues to do it wrong and you have to ask why has this not been sorted out by the coaches. Weve been watching it happen since before the 2013 GF. Its 2017 now. Pav can see it, we can see it, but the coaching panel cant coach it.
B Hill cant tackle. Sure hes small but he needs a better technique, going lower for the hips. Why hasnt this been coached. Its been obvious for 10 weeks.
Why does Subes keep falling on the ball and dragging it in. The rule has been in place for years and he been getting pinged for years. Thats coachable.
Theres an art to switching play, which I wont go into in this thread, needless to say we dont have any idea of when to do it, when not to do it and how to do it. Thats coaching.
Theres a hundred things we do wrong and 90% can be coached.
The most frustrating aspect today was all the free Swans players everywhere and once again all our defenders en masse just running from one contest to the next to the next, leaving their men so the Swans could just play Chinese Checkers.
Thats not really work rate. Sure the Swans out ran us sometimes but our effort is there. Its unintelligent work rate and effort.
Just when you think they might be getting coached properly it seems like they havent learned a thing in years. Whats confusing is that this coach has coached teams into GFs before. I just dont get why they look like they ve never been coached. I really dont know whats going on.
