At the very least it is high contact, and could be considered unduly rough play.

He looked at the oncoming player and straight legged his boot into his face. Dahlhous didn't duck (or anything), nor was Greene attempting a Thierry Henry scissor-kick of the ball that just went haywire. It was an extended outward kick (not a swinging one) that used his boot cleats as a weapon - his intention, clearly, was to harm - not to the body, straight at, and into, the face.

Not on. Cameron's misguided attempt to influence and/or mitigate a penalty is also, not on. Straight through to the tribunal. Greene gets 4 weeks, Cameron 2 weeks - both have to shut their gobs or their suspensions are doubled.

In the round ball game players get sanctioned for exactly this action (as it could easily fracture an opponent's bone). Most are simply red-carded and sent off the pitch immediately - the 'soft' form of football aren't soft on this at all - they just get the arseclown off and out of the game.

Michael Long fended with his foot exactly the same way nearly every afl game he played. I don't recall him being reported for it.

Two things I'd like to say.

i) elevating his foot wasn't the problem as he was jumping for the ball. The extension of his leg with his studs facing out. He clearly used his studs to fend off an opponent, which is not on regardless of where he connects. The fact that he connected with the face makes it worse.
ii) if no penalty is handed out it creates a mighty big precedent which will allow this kind of action with the studs to be used to fend off players. Something that no one wants.

As an aside, given this guys recent history, I'm also surprised that his round arm hit (tackle?) on Caleb Daniel's head hasn't received similar attention.

I was watching an ice hockey game when I was a little tacker - during an all-in brawl one player intentionally stomped on the hand of an opponent on the ice. Chopped two fingers off (and a bit of the third), the goon explaining that he lost his balance and accidentally stumbled. My brother barfed all over my snow boots.

Thing is, even though I was in the juniors at the time, I never considered that my blades were weapons until seeing that. Sure, I knew they were dangerous, but most kids only considered their sticks (and fists) to be weapons - not skates. It would only be a matter of proportional probability (and time) until some other dope stepped over a line that no one had considered before. And it did (until the league stepped in and threatened lifetime bans).

Maybe in your la de da gluten free soy milk and avacado croissant brunch world but where I'm from if it sticks out of your hand it's a finger.

Using your foot or knee to fend off is one thing, extending your leg up and out to fend off someone's face with your studs is quite another.
It never ceases to amaze me that you can be reported for tripping someone up - seriously, who ever suffered a bad injury from being tripped? - but it's perfectly ok to kung fu kick an opponent in the face?
I've seen studs to the face slice someone's face open in soccer. The AFL has to draw a line in the sand here before players get the idea that this is an acceptable way of contesting the ball.

The sort who look at their newly minted offspring and ask themselves Toby or not Toby that is the question

Soooo the 6 inch nail that was sticking out of my hand after a bad school boy skateboarding stunt went wrong was actually a new finger. Bloody new finger sure hurt a lot. So that must make me an amputee when they took it out......
Can I claim disability benefits for that??

i think he will get a couple of weeks, but i remember him marking the ball on two other occasions before that incident,,and it is his natural action ,it maybe the only thing that saves him, sometimes he has a bent knee ,but most times his leg is straight out in front of him

Ok, he wasn't marking the ball. He was receiving a handball. Receiving a handball!!! Dalhaus was not a threat to him physically, he wasn't even flat out. To say that Greene was taking the ball in a natural fashion, protecting himself blah blah, is complete rubbish. If Dalhaus wasn't there, that leg would not have been in that position. Let's face it, he saw, he thought, he studded him in the face. Should have been a free kick, it wasn't. It was reckless, unneccasry and silly, and potentially a more serous injury outcome. A week at least.
