Wilson is not going to cost pick 5 and there is no way Freo would give that up for him.

So we plan on getting Wilson, McGovern and Matera is that correct?

The only person we know of to bargain with is Balic and he wants to go to a Victorian club, so there needs to be plenty of other clubs involved in some of those hard to follow exchanges I'm guessing.

No way to Casboult. The next guy that gets drafted/traded - and I dont really care if its a KPP or a midfielder to be honest - needs to have elite kicking skills.
Im sure this debate will rage on for the next few months but to me the criteria is easy. In my opinion we need speed and elite kicking, end of story, if you dont have that dont bother applying.

What a relief to see Bennells kicking skills on those first two kicks.

The days of recruiting effort based good blokes who cant kick has got to be over. (Apologies to D Pearce, De Pig, Barlow, The Fist, The Gu, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Tabs, Mayney etc)

What does Matera give us we don't already have?? We need big forwards, not crumbers who will wait behind the line of small forwards we have.

understand what you are saying about Matera RM, and what you say about our need for talls. But I don't think that small forwards should be "off the list". Mikey comes back, I would suggest he is more midfield these days, than forward...and Ballas, ...well....if he keeps the hammys together he is half good for at most 2 years. If not... well, wheres our next small forward??

Not sure Matera is 'the fit'.....but you can't not pay interest to someone who wants to come back...and more importantly, is content to play for a rabble like us!

Personally, I think Liam Ryan is very much on the agenda. He hasn't 'dropped his head' after not getting drafted last year, and has shown some resilience to again 'do his stuff' in the WAFL. Says a bit about his character.

Plus, he has got 'X factor' which I am not sure Matera has, and, where would a Dockers team be without a small forward who can do extra-ordinary things???

Think he must stay in WA, so, not sure if interstate clubs will pick him up in the first round. If we can get ourselves a second round pick, then maybe we can nab him?

Hopefully our recruiting department comes to its senses and picks a big kid with elite skills with our hard earned #5 draft pick...

Being crap for a couple of years should allow us to pick quality players in the draft. Logue last year will be a handy player. This year with pick 5, that's Gold. The trouble top 5 draft picks can turn ugly and it hurts more if you don't get it right. In 2009, we picked Mora at 4. Richmond with Dustin Martin at pick 3, and Fyfe at 20. 8 years down the track there's a story to be told on all 3 years players. This year's draft especially the top 10 players are great pickups. I'm just hoping like hell that our pick 5 will be gold.

Genuine question, as I haven't really had a chance to see him play - is Noughton worth a top 5 pick, or is that paying overs?

I've watched him down at Peel on a couple of occasions and I like what I saw. Good intercept mark and quite a good kick and good composure. The people over east don't rate him in the top 10. He has been invited to the draft combine so there's clubs interested in a KPP. Given that we've got Hamling, Pearce, Cox and Logue to hold the back posts, I don't think Freo would be interested. Therefore I don't think we'll be using pick 5 on him. I think after the trade period, we'll get a better idea if in fact we still have pick 5. I hope so.

Agree with Jezza in that no matter how good Naughton is we don't really need another big backman. We've already got Cox who was in the u/18s AA side as a backman, but because we haven't recruited properly we're trying to change him into a key forward, with limited success.

I'm concerned that Jezza's description of Logue could be quite accurate-handy. In my mind anyone picked as early as he was should be more than handy. Early days, but I'm hoping for more. We really don't have a very good record of using our first draft pick well.

Just guessing ......but I wouldn't be surprised if their was a swap of first round picks for M MgGovern between Adelaide and Freo....would that be good ?

I hope not. He'd be welcome, but don't think he's worth pick 5 and he's not the big key forward we need.

We only have Tabener and perhaps Cox, who is more suited to the backline so knowing us we'll probably waste a first pick on a skinny Victorian midfielder.

What about if you could pick up another midfielder likeFyfe (who we got at 20) or a Dustin Martin type with our number 5 pick, replaced Fyfe in the middle and sent Fyfe permanently forward?

In other words could you use your number 5 pick to gain Fyfe as a key forward. I know most clubs would do it in a heart beat.
The only issue I see is that Fyfe is not a great kick.............so Im rejecting my own theory.

This season has got me all screwed up!!!!
