If he doesn't get at least two weeks down graded to one week then I have to wonder if betting has influenced the outcome.

What about the fact that Dangerfield's ex-teammate, Jimmy Bartel, is a member (and seemingly the most outspoken one at that) of the MRP? I'm sure Bartel will recuse himself though.

After Round 15 the MRP assessed McCarthy's tackle on Sam Gilbert as 'careless conduct with high impact to the head,' which drew an initial three-match penalty, reduced to two with a guilty plea. Although Gilbert missed the rest of the game, he played the following week - so there is nothing to distinguish the 'high impact to the head' part, because Kreuzer also missed the rest of the game. There is also nothing to distinguish Dangerfield's and McCarthy's conduct in the two incidents.

In a fair and unbiased competition, there is no way that Dangerfield gets off.

Also though in a fair and unbiased competition, the medal at the end of the season would probably be named after someone who actually played in the national competition.

Watching Game Day absolute disgrace how the hell one player gets a platform to plead his case is beyond me. Surely the AFL must fine him for trying to influence the tribunal, I didn't think players or officials were meant to comment on these matters.
The Brownlow is an irrelevance against the incident. How does a player such as McCarthy feel, trying to regain form and find his way in the AFL copping two weeks when a player that is assured of his position in the game cops nothing. Let's not forget some players get very limited opportunity to make it. If that player has worked tirelessly over many years to string together enough quality games together to finally start winning a position in the seniors, then cops a two week suspension, the outcome for this player is at least as awful as Dangerfield losing his Brownlow.

McCarthy copped two weeks because the bloke he was tackling had already disposed of the ball. The tackle was illegal from the start. Poor Cam was so out of touch the ball was a couple of metres gone before he got him arms around him.

Dangerfield's tackle was perfectly legal at the start, but having pinned the arms he needed to let go. That's a tough one for the players, and I reckon the fact that it was a midfielder tackling a 2m / 100+ kg ruckman probably plays a small role too (if it was the other way round it would count significantly in the duty of care argument).

I reckon it's close enough to getting off that they'll let it slide, the way they did with Fyfe sliding into the North bloke a few years ago.

Drubbing is right. If you're good enough to poll the most votes despite missing games, what sort of weird puritanical system would preclude them from winning a medal? That 'fairest' rule was made when the only way to get rubbed out was punching someone in the head. It wasn't to punish great players who misjudge tackles.

Well, if it was a Freo player, I'd be advising them to accept the 2 weeks down to 1 with an early plea. The ball was long gone when that tackle finished.

How do they grade those things you speak of Morgan? I thought they brought in the tick box thing so the MRP didn't have to risk wading into a whole matrix of intangibles?

Umpires have a tough gig in that so much is left to their interpretation of the rules. You can cop a weird decisions so long the umps are consistent throughout the game.
Unfortunately the Match Review members have only been consistent in their inconsistency. Dangerfield should not get off but he will.

Kreuzer had also disposed of the ball, although harder to distinguish this is routinely penalised and player doesn't seem to be able to argue that they had no idea. I take your point on this though and McCarthy was probably worth an extra week.

I thought Fyfe was unlucky in the year he got rubbed out to miss the Brownlow, as later in the year different criteria were applied in the Viney case to head high contact. Influenced by the media. However I thought Fyfe was lucky to not get rubbed out the following year based on media attention.

The Brownlow eligibility must be changed to stop the tribunal findings being compromised. I appreciate your willingness to bring a sense of balance to these things Morgan, so I have a genuine question for you. If McCarthys tackle was identical to Dangerfields, do you think he would be given the same level of understanding and escape with no penalty?

According to the MRP a tackle can be judged to be dangerous when:

I. The player being tackled is in a vulnerable position (ie arms pinned) with little opportunity to protect himself.
ii. An opponent is slung, driven or rotated into the ground with excessive force.

There's no obvious sling or 'double motion'. But Kreuzer is in a vulnerable position. So the question will come down to whether it was excessive. If you ask me it's right on the line. And as I've said a bunch of times before, I reckon if it's on the line the players should get the benefit of the doubt.

Respect your point of view disagree on the two actions. However nearly all effective tackles have two actions.
Personally I have always disliked this ruling, but once it is enforced needs to be equally enforced across all players star or not. Would appear to me that your view on benefit of the doubt is only being randomly applied based upon profile.

That's exactly why there is a rule. He tackled past the point of needing to tackle and drove Kreuzer into the ground as a result. It's a bit innocuous but you could kill someone doing that.

Going back to an earlier post, it's ludicrous that the panel includes past team mate/s. This is a problem I've raised before and it is an easy one to resolve. Surely Bartel has to go for this hearing.

How is this :

Dangerfield laid what Jude Bolton described as "the perfect tackle" early in the third quarter on Saturday night and there is an argument that his actions were reasonable in the circumstances.
It is expected the box-ticking won't take place for Dangerfield and he will be cleared.
