In order for Yeti to catch a bit of a kip and recharge before tomorrow's game, why doesn't someone bring up SP-S and let Bizkit loose on the keyboard?

SP-S is overrated. Is a boof-wannabe.

Who is SP-S? Not another midfielder we should look at taking with pick 7 in next years draft I hope.

A name like that sounds like defendant 19 in a 1950's era illegal betting trial.

I can't seriously believe anyone thinks Roly instructs our players to bomb it in to our forward line.

I can't believe he hasn't done anything to stop them doing it for 4 years, either.

I don't think Freo just 'bomb' the ball into the forward line, because sometimes it doesn't even reach the forwards. I think the ball is repeatedly, but accurately, kicked to a contest in the forward line. Unfortunately, our forwards lose the contest, most of the time. Otherwise, it's a great tactic, generally well executed, by a brilliantly coached team.

Interesting that the bloke who had the most shots on goal and goals (3.3) is an AFL runt

The key element in your statement there Mus, is kicking to a contest.

It's a multi facetted suggestion I know, but not doing that usually reaps rewards. Roly made a name of himself as a coach playing a tightly contested, high pressure game plan that some went so far as to describe as ugly or destroying football. Unlike the other coaches that employ a similar style, he doesn't seem to have found a way to play out of his own game plan. He's beaten himself.

Noddy,

I can't believe that old line about Roly instructing our players to bomb it in is getting repeated yet again after its been shot down so many times.

It gets 'bombed in' because the genius gameplan we kinda sorta use requires we don't keep anybody in the forward line to make leads. When we do have somebody there, they are generally outnumbered by defenders. It gets 'bombed in' because thats the only alternative available to our players.

That won't change unless the coach does and Roly has never shown any inclination to learn from his mistakes. Ever.

Please stop repeating that nonsense argument. It doesn't survive scrutiny.

Yeti, you are on a sure fire winner here. If Roly doesn't turn it around, you can just say, "See, I told you he was a crab", but if on the other hand he does turn it round, you'll be saying, "At last he made the changes I've been asking for all along".
Me, I'm quite sure Roly knows what he wants to see happening out there, and he's working hard to make it happen. But you can only work with what you've been given.

RR,

I'm guessing the players could be saying the same thing.

In Roly's case, that isn't true as he refuses to use all he;s been given. He plays guys out of position and then complains they don't meet their expectations. Well, Roly isn't meeting expectations.

As for being on a winner, I don't think so. Its just frustrating watching the same mistakes every week. Its frustrating watching us get outcoached so often. Its frustrating watching work experience kids like Simpson use the same game plan against us because he knows Roly can't or won't change anything to stop him.

What he's doing isn't working. You can blame the players all you want but he trains them, he selects them and he tells them what to do and when they don't do what they're told he refuses to select them.

Fine, blame the players but the problem here is off field first and foremost

Why do you have to blame anyone? Besides blame being pretty much a reasoning culled sac, it's perfectly logical to simply accept this is where they're at in this stage of their development. You'd think they're tracking well against (if not in front of) Carlton as a team at the moment, who get a lot of plaudits and leeway, even given we've been playing a younger team than them recently.

Yeti just because you continue to make the same statement week in week out does not then mean that other people's claims have been shot down repeatedly.
As for kicking the ball in long to the forward line, when I watch most games of football I see virtually every team do it at various times. The same as kicking the ball backwards to try and spread the opposition zones, all teams do it at times. When you are losing these are the things that fans like to blame.
There have been enough games and passages of play this year to see when execution is good we can compete. Last year I found it frustrating given the fall from grace and persistence with the same personnel. This year since round 2 I am a lot happier with a lot of youth and experimentation with field position.
It must be remembered when comparing us to Sydney and Hawthorn that there are differences. Hawthorn still have some very high quality players playing at a reasonable standard, Hodge, Roughy, Burgoyne. Sydney have had the assistance of an academy and players such as Kennedy, Franklin, Okeefe. I could go through and do more analysis on their experienced players but my primary interest is in supporting the FFC.
