I hate Hawthorn, but even more I hate Sydney because of the way the AFL look after them. So a great result for me. But rather than admire the way Sydney adjusted their game, I liked the way the Hawks adapted to Sydney's style of protecting the ball and then shovelling it out to advantage. Once a Sydney player went to ground the Hawks lockd that ball in. And also the way the Hawks just swarmed the Sydney player getting the quick handpass away - get a hand on it and its all over...

Lyon doesn't need 1000 games collective experience on the park to get them to try different things when needed - he plays enough players in different positions every week.

He has enough experience to know when something isn't working. Or he should. But clearly doesn't. That he's proven.

I'm sure that obvious fact won't deter you from proselytising that Lyon is the answer, given time of course.

Our game plan is nothing like Sydney's. It is not rocket science seeing the difference.

They keep a forward line, we don't.

They score when they hit leads, we don't do leads.

They have tall marking forwards to help with the contested ball, we leave ours at Peel.

They have better skills.

Where it can be similar is they can bomb it in, it fails for them and us and when they do that too much, they lose, same as us.

Other than that, they demonstrate the ability to recognise stupidity and change what they do, we don't

Oh look, you can criticise Roly all you like, but because we are a young, team, not well used to playing with each other, we make mistakes and work harder than we need to. And so we can't sustain the effort and get blown away in the last quarter.

Its not carping, its valid criticism. It won't go away just because people can't cope with it.

If you disagree with with the critcism, construct a factual argument to dispute it. If you can't construct that argument then maybe you should accept the criticism as being valid

Incredible double standards in the AFL. Nat Edwards writes the 'five talking points' from this game and suggests that Buddy has no reason to be suspended for either of his two misdemeanours with L Hodge — his head high interception well after Hodge marked the ball is clearly not in the spirit of the game — intentional, reckless, high, not in play — but probably 'not serious' because Hodge got up to continue the game. IMO 'the look' does nothing for the game in this case.
The second (and prior) episode is a little biffo on the boundary line with Franklin going full-on at Hodge in the face, but the 'open hand' means it wasn't serious. Puh-lease.

Show me such latitude if it was a player wearing purple!

The first incident, when it happened, my immediate thought was a week even with a plea. It was cheap shot and Buddy looked a bit out of sorts. Looked a bit worked up. Stupid move on his part.

At the end of the day and this is an argument I've maintained throughout is that players make coaches. In time, Roly will silenced his doubters because the players will execute his plan. I won't be cheering for RTB but for the boys who've stuck fat and busted their lungs. The boys who've spilled the purple blood and the boys who believed. That's why I'll continue to be optimistic even if the FFC replaces Roly at the end of 2018.

Yes in that Tabs is the only true tall we have available given Apeness is out injured.

And, no, Tabs isn't anywhere near Buddy's ability, so I'd never compare the two as far as ability is concerned. My comment referred to a 'bomb it in gameplan' without even trying to support it by selecting a marking tall.

Even with Buddy, its a stupid tactic when the opposition knows it what you will always do
