Shane, Freo players get shifted out of the contest in the same manner all the time, get 1 free in 10, we get them paid against us 8 out of 10 however, similar to holding frees at stoppages. How many times did you see Fyfe dragging a Hawk along with one arm while trying to win the ball with the other last night?

All he needed to do differently in that contest was look towards the ball earlier and certainly before he made contact. Hopefully that'll be something he filed away for future use. Otherwise a great contest from Logue.

I think all signs point to him being a rapid learner.

Nah Shane. It was just a beautiful mark. And say it was Hodge, it would have been paid as a mark. That's the problem with young players, the umpires aren't sure which set of rules apply to them yet.

As soon as the Hawk saw Logue was going to get early position to take the mark, he went early with an unrealistic attempt at the mark. The umpire controlling the game paid the mark. Then Margetts came from midfield and reversed it. No 2 wrongs don't make a right, but in our case it is 22 wrongs to a right.

There's never a game where you get every decision from the umpire going your way. Umpires would have made no difference to the result last night but some people seem to think there's a conspiracy against Fremantle from the the whole umpiring panel or particular umpires who conspire to bring us down each week.
I'm sure if you checked other footy sites you's find the same for their teams.
Now I'm not saying I agree with all the decisions, and there are certain aspects of the game that the umpires are terrible in but i don't think we're on our own.
Besides we've got much greater problems at the moment than umpires.

CA, I named Margetts, because he is one of 4 or 5 umpires who seem to give us a raw deal, and we get these umpires on a regular basis often 2 or 3 of them in a game. The free against Walters is another example of double standards. S Hill was hit twice in front of the umpire with no penalty.

The 50 metres for getting to close to the mark in a free is another, saw 3 that could have been but were not paid our way. The holding the ball, incorrect disposal, frees paid against us regularly, ball bounced when we tackle. Is it because we try to get the ball out then get pinged? IDK. A Freo player was buried into the ground in a tackle, stood up and got a handpass away but was pinged for taking too long. Hawks player 20 meters out from goal tackled by I think Darcy, and was held for a considerable time then got a dubious hand pass away, play on goal.

Darcy gets arm on shoulder in most ruck contests around the ground to hold him down, tries the tactic himself and has a kick paid against him. Sure these things go against other sides, sometimes. Fyfe being held by 1 arm at many stoppages, no kick paid. When he tries to push an opponent away before the bounce, free against him for blocking or some such crap.

We see it all the time and while it does not in itself lose every game for us, it contributes in a large way to the confusion of especially our young players. The look on Darcy's face when a few of these decisions were made last night was one of disbelief. Like the non mark before half time that was never replayed, what was the call there?

I don't know how many times I have to say this, but you don't need conspiracy theory to prove or explain the occurence of systematic bias.

Also, given that the teams performance is pretty much out of your control as a supporter, any explanations you come up with as to why things happened out there, is mostly between you and your sanity.

As I said RM there are crap decisions every week. You can watch any game any time any team and find them. We're not alone and i don 't believe in a conspiracy theory.
I do believe though that umpiring overall is not good enough but a game like AFL is open to too many interpretations.
The rule makers are equally to blame by bringing stupid pointless rules like being too close to a person who is about to kick a ball after mark or free kick. The offender has no influence on the play, is not attempting to interfere and is usually not even looking at the player.

Give some examples of the Hawks bad luck last night with umpiring decisions CA, I don't say it is a conspiracy, I do say we get more than our share from some umpires, and suggest sub-conscious or conscious bias in those areas. And I know we are not the only side , but we are one of the unlucky few, very few.

Yes, CA, there are crap decisions every week. For example the slime lost today at least partly because of an umpire howler in front of goal. The point I'd make is that decision would never be made against the slime at Subi in front of their goal in that pressure cooker situation. But it would be made against us. And that is the bit I hate.

In the game today a Pie was in pretty much exactly Logue's position and failed to mark the ball with a slime player jumping on him, and the Pie got the free. This type of decision is the pits. Just 2 players, nothing else happening, the umpire's full focus on that contest, and they get it wrong. Change the rules or train the umpires better. I think I've said before that I want full-time professional umpires.

Hawthorn dominated that game from start to finish and won by cover 50pts yet received only one more free kick than us. That is way against the norm.
Michael Walters is often perceived to get a raw deal from the umpires. Last night he received more free kicks than anyone on the ground and only played over half a game. Whereas I think he gets a better run from the umpires because he's not playing for free kicks or ducking his head as much as he used to, you'd be looking for the free kick that he didn't get.
Do you watch other games or just the Freo ones? There's not a game i watch when I don't yell at the umpires over a few ridiculous decisions, some that alter the course of the game.
We're not alone in being screwed by the umpires at times but even when we win and get a good run some still want to find the frees that were missed or went against us.
And if you try to compare one decision from one game to a similar decision in another game you're really looking for anti free kick justification. That would be endless.
I just don't believe in the free kick anti Fremantle umpiring conspiracy. But like anyone I think we there are some umpires that are better than others. just like players I suppose.

I wonder if Johnno got away with that around the neck in the last photo?

You came up with 1 example CA, and I'm not sure that the Hawks player wasn't dragging Johnno out of the play in that one, by the way with 18 minutes left in the game Walters was hobbling off in the background. And I think Walters gets less than half the free kicks he should get.

Even Hawthorn supporters sitting behind me couldn't believe that was a free kick against Logue. Absolute bollocks.

The fact that the Hawthorn player kicked the goal just rubbed salt into it.
