I can see what is really happening on the field. Suggesting that because we can't see what goes on in the rooms, or that we are "fingernail deep" analysts is a cop out - an excuse to not analyse or bring any critical faculty to bear on the situation.
A bit like using a 4 year rebuild as an excuse for non-performance on the field.
A rebuild focuses on personnel, but the existing personnel during the rebuild should be able to grasp and attempt to implement a coaching strategy during that rebuild. Especially when half the side was around during the previous implementation.
I think that Lyon's plan needs players the ilk of Macfarlane, Pav, Fyfe, Johnno & Sandi (champion KPPs) so I worry that the "rebuild" is us killing time and opportunity while we try to unearth similar, or realise that without them we will at best be a competitive top 8 team with no real chance of pulling off the big one.
But as much as anything, if we are on a journey, I'd like the club and coach to at least come out and explain what the journey is and how we are going about it. He may not have been able to coach, but Connolly could communicate a message. Being kept in that dark and treated like chumps with a succession of throw away lines does not predispose me to sit back and just assume that "top men" have got it all under control. Especially when all the signs on the field are to the contrary.
