B1R1, the "draft some footy players from the local leagues" was forced on Neesham circa 1995, and it did not work then, nor will it work now. Sure trade or delist 4 or 5 players, and rookie list 1 to replace Yarran. Bring in 10 or 12, and you are back to teaching half a team a totally new game plan, or how to play without a game plan, depending on your political persuasion.

All we really need is a strong marking target up forward, and 1 mid sized marking half back who can kick, plus a general down back. I suspect we have these players on our list, and all we need to do is get them playing in those positions. Natural attrition will take care of those who can't crack it or are too old. They can be easily replaced in the draft. ( maybe except Johnno, who I suspect is in his last year due to a worn out body.)

So far restump, rebuild whatever you want to call it is going much better than I imagined after 2016. The team will be built around the captain that has just resigned with the club for six years.
My guess would be that he has thought long and hard with plenty of options available if he wanted to take them. He may have even had some advice from people who know the footy industry. He seems to think that Freo has something to offer and even might think that the coach is not a cretin.
In my opinion Balic looks like he may be similar to McCarthy and be home sick. If this is the case could simply be working through the issues and unfortunately sustained an injury, why wouldnt club let him go home for a while. If we treat him right and still wants to go home, we should support him in this and secure a win win. May be a way to get back into the second round of this draft. He has ability but has shown no more than praobably another at least 20-30 players at other clubs.
Langdon is a player that has shown more and should be retained but will have genuine interest from over east particularly with his brother at Collingwood. I really would like for him to stay with us.
If there is any interest in Sheridan this should be explored.
In response to Logue critics and he is on slow burn and hasn't shown many glimpses, seriously 8 games in. Didn't they see the goal from 55 that he kicked in pre season or his pace, mobility and marking after 3 qtr time last week.
We tend to over value our own players and what they are worth on the trade market and under value players at other clubs. The club to me is looking like one operating with integrity and treating its playing list with respect.
Richmond is a club that has had a history of continually poorly managing expectations of a supporter base, pandering to outside influences and therefore made multiple poor decisions over the last twenty years. Last year they they stayed the course when many thought they should sack Hardwick, this year they sit in fifth and look more genuine than they ever have.
We seem to be a club that is building stability and making less mistakes than we have in our history. Does this mean we will win a premiership? I don't know, but I know I will be happier staying onboard supportive of my club, than waiting five years naysaying hoping it all goes pair shaped so that I can say I told you so.

With Taberner, I'm reminded that I often hear that it takes a long time for big guys to develop. And to be fair to Tabs, he is pretty big. So I wonder why we don't cut him some slack. Because I can see him being a pretty handy player for many years. Of course I could be totally wrong...

Hope he is selected this week. Very unfair if he's not.

Can't remember a forward with two more standout games in the wafl. In both possessions marks and scoreboard. Seems to cop more scrutiny than others.

Yeah I reckon they should play Tabs every game for the rest of the season and see what he has.

Interesting read on Clarko (300 coaching games) on AFL site, as to his recruiting strategies over the years. Doesn't sound like he lets the cobblers do the cobbling!

Maybe Clarko doesn't have any cobblers.

RM - if you are suggesting that recruiting 3 players will give us a premiership list, then you are dreaming mate.

Read it again Derby, I don't suggest recruiting them, I suggest we have them already, and just need to play them in those 3 positions, then let the recruiters recruit the best available.

Four of the right type of experienced players, another year development, a decent game style and we could be right back in the hunt.

I'd also be taking some large loads of salt with the attributions expressed in a fanboi puff piece, such as that one published on the AFL website by Ash Brown.

There were plenty of the old cobblers in that article and still some left over to go about their business down at Hawthorn.
;p

hey RM - read it again.

So you are saying that we have a premiership list, and just need to play them in the right positions. Wow. You must really rate Ross Lyon ...
