Maybe we need to learn to fix things that have been broken for at least the last 10 years. Until recently we havent had to worry about disposal because with 211 we get so much possession that we go forward and win games on strength of numbers, but we find it near impossible to take that long bomb mark near forward 50. Thats where we need to have a crumber to get the inevitable spill backwards away from our forward 50.We usually just turn it i over there as often the opposition have worked that out and have a crumber who can read the play. Its just poor coaching.

I heard AA Luke say that he's time under Ross Lyon was anything but unpleasant. As a player who played under several coaches, he acknowledged that Roly got him playing his best footy. A coach who spoke consistenly about his messages to the players, win or lose. Mcpharlin isn't the only one that speaks highly of Roly. Yet people from the outside looking in seem to be the masters at what he should do. What I thought of Roly since he waltzed in was that he'll support and teach if you're prepared to toil. And what he said about Bennell gives me reason to stay the journey, like the players who now dons the purple.

IMHO Roly for all his smarts in the media lowered himself with his answer to the question regarding Tabs.
An even spread of 52 disposals 23 marks 11 goals straight 16 hit outs across 2 consecutive games could have evoked at very least the slightest of public acknowledgments in the positive. A simple "it was encouraging" or something of that nature would have sufficed.

He's universally praised for publicly supporting his players. Not on this occasion.

Never mind it is in the context of a team that is crying out for a fwd to build a functioning fwd structure around and his team had just murdered the ball when shooting for goal.

Oh and another thing I didn't get.
The question about us missing shots and Roly's "sometimes guarding the mark properly" answer.
Roly the defending team guards the mark not the attacking team who are in the act of missing said shots.
That was a little bizarre from a supposedly huge intellect in football terms.

I find Lyon's press conferences unwatchable. Perhaps it's the adrenaline of the game leaving his system, or he's just drained from the busy week, but he typically has the defensiveness turned up to 11, which means you never really get more than clichés and deflection.

I'm not sure it says anything about him as a coach other than he gives lousy press conferences.

But he's probably still not even in the bottom 3 Freo coaches for press conferences. I never knew what Harvey was going on about, temporary coach Ben Allan could put you to sleep in 30 seconds, and Drum managed to diminish himself every time he opened his mouth.

Connelly was the best for theatre, Neesham the best for grizzled honesty.

Ask Luke Ball about how Lyon supported him or indeed how he supported his players by 'retiring' 3 of them publicly only for that to be denied by the players.

Getting support from Lyon can be a two edged sword I've noticed
