Not only did his mum scream in anguish but I seem to recall his dad offering him $70,000 to not come over and wait for next draft so seems to have a fair bit of family pressures on the young lad and now another injury so he can't show other clubs just what he's capable of. Hope things turn out for him as looked good.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing....but I reckon this article is intriguing, interesting, and at the same time disturbing.....bit of expectation/pressure built up on the young fellow at a far too early age, I reckon.

Corporal ...I agree with you about due diligence. There doesn't seem to be any great 'stars' picked after him. I do note, however, Sam Menegola was pick 66.....but obviously we'd done our due diligence and had worked out he was no good whilst he spent 3 years inour squad!!

Tom Phillips, Wylie Buzza, Ben Crocker, Oleg Markov and Rupert Wills names that were taken after Balic. And than theres a few others that are just starting to come through now. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Rupert Wills will be the best of that lot (191cm 89 kg midfielder) and he would be a bloody great player to have in a purple jumper, but, whilst he played 5 cracking games for Collingwood late last year, he hasn't played at all this year....

I live in hope that he's disgruntled and wants to come west.....

Drubbing, it might be a wasted pick, but who would you have taken after Balic at #38 in that draft? Even with the benefit of hindsight, I'm not convinced there was a better pick available.
