Anyone who is as good below his knees, and as quick with his footy brain as Darcy, can play in the same team as Sandi. When you consider that he has 6 or 7 years before he is at his peak in theory, we are crazy if we put him away in cotton wool. A lot of young fellas his size get a bit of a shock when they get to the bigs, and most players are as strong, and not intimidated by a big fella, and struggle with that. He looked like he had been eating athletic types like Stanley for breakfast since grade 7 out there today.

The way the game is played today, he is not going to get really smashed by anyone (more chance of that in the slower paced 2nd tier games) and if the match committee are worried he is not yet match fit, the best way to get him match fit is to play him for another 3 or 4 weeks and re-assess. My bet is now he has had a taste, they are going to have to cut his jumper off him.

By the way, it has been very kind of Hase and Sylvia to make sure number 4 will be a good fit for Darcy.

Darcy was awesome. What I liked best was his ability to get the ball onto his boot in congestion. Sometimes we are to worried about a handball out when a quick kick forward is the best option. Smart footballer

Loved his game and his attitude. Love the fact he isn't a cut specimen but abig lump of a lad with a big heart who just puts his body into the contest. He has cult hero written all over him.

I think he also hurt himself in the last quarter so that probably slowed him down. He was great! So happy for him to have such a terrific debut in front of family and friends.

Any other 1st game, recently-turned-19 yr-old ruckman , wearing anything other than a purple jumper , who gets 40 H.O's, 14 disposals, 5 clearances - yes, 5 clearances!! - (...Dangerflog got 12! ) , as a sole ruckman, would win the weekly rising star nomination in a canter and the AFL World would be in a lather.!
When the 'Dreadlocked Joke Up the Road' got nominated, it was after a 13 disposal, 17 HO rd 4 game after playing 10 games the previous year.!
Hodor, we reckon you're great! And I actually hope you don't win a nomination for an award that has been so demeaned and is now so valueless and meaningless.
Just keep on doing what you are doing - its great to see a true footballer going about his stuff! ...and plonk a couple of Saints this week!!!

It should be renamed "Rising Pretty Boy AwFL Star Of the Year" award. Darcy has put in one of the best debut performances I can remember, ranks alongside the great performances over the years. Maybe the judges just underestimate what it takes for an 18/19 year old ruckman to go up against seasoned players, compared to a small forward or midfielder. Or maybe the judges, like the journos just don't watch Freo games.

I like two see photos of Sean when first drafted to current situation 6 months after. It's staggering how his physique has changed. The fact Freo have extended his rookie contract speaks volumes of what he can potentially be. The dilemma is that he has to stay our No.1 ruckman for the rest of the season or as long as his body can sustained the demands of AFL footy. Freo have got something special in its kit bag. I'm keeping the lid on.

Jezza, I hope that he gets enough footy this year to show his wares, but the first sign of the orange petrol light coming on, he should be rested for a game or 2. He may have the tank to play the season out, and that would be great for him and Freo, but I hope we don't push him too hard too early just because Sandi is injured.

Whats not been mentioned is Darcy is a very competent Full Forward-watch his efforts at Peel where he has kicked a few goals whilst also rucking.
Pity he ran out of petrol against Geelong otherwise it would have made sense for Roly to station him at FF-now that would have been a magical debut if he marked and kicked the winniing goal ala Mundy.
