TOPIC: Can we win?

Yes Yeti, I don't like our entries into the 50 as they don't help our bigger forwards. Tabs would be the closest we have to a big marking forward like Kennedy, Hawkins, Cameron, etc. McCarthy and Kersten don't have the bulk and are about the same height as a lot of midfielders nowadays.

P.S. Please disagree again. That would be three in a row and I might be closing in on Morgan's record.

Short term, our best bet is Tabs as the main forward, McCarthy as a roving forward, Ballas and Crazier as crumbers.

Have a set forward structure, with leading patterns and instruct our mids to look for and aim for them. I'm sick of seeing a hard won ball in the midfield get turned over because their is nobody forward to kick it to.

Midfield needs to be held accountable. For a team with an A grade midfield, they perform pretty poorly. Even Brisbane could cut them to pieces. Robbing our forward line to shore up a failing midfield is a losing strategy, yet we do it week in, week out. Collapse our forward line to a crowded midfield and then have nothing forward when we get it.

Its stupid. Incredibly stupid and the failure is our off-field component.

Waiting patiently to rate the players. Perhaps Shane is adding a Spud option. I would like to exercise it for a particular forward.

McCarthy's year out is telling. He looks slow and that's after the bye but he has a future for sure. Kersten better around ground but not forward just not holding marks. Unfortunately Tabs not consistent enough yet but was just a rookie or late pickup? Look how long no1 pickup J Watts has taken. Not sure what answer is. Possibly as suggested swapping rucks forward when Sandi back playing alongside Darcy . Hope he gets this weeks rising star.

Agree, Darcy shows a footy brain and instinct, some of his work at ground level was telling in our first half lead. He ran out of petrol, and Stanley taking him in the air at that ruck contest slowed him down too, can't believe it was not a free. I think we will see a bit of a hard side to him as well as he gets comfortable out there. He looks the player we have been looking for to help Sandi out.

Bloody Pav , he would’ve been good for a half a dozen .. Dockers played well today , hopefully we can string a couple solid efforts together along with sorting that going forward structure / player thing .
Darcy and Deluca are keepers ..

I can't believe the criticism from some about our forward line. I didn't see HAWKINS or Taylor (before he went back) having an impact. Unless you're Buddy Franklin or Patton or Kennedy, you're relying on young forwards doing big things. In the next few weeks, our best 22 will include Harley Bennell. He's the missing jigsaw to the puzzle. I think Darcy is now in that mix. With Fyfe and Sandi coming back, now that Ballas is back, our forward line will function.

Exciting footy to watch and can't question the effort from nearly all of the players and given the degree of inexperience of a number of them it seems they were coached well to nearly beat the Cats at home. It'd help if the key forwards could lead into space at key moments

Jezza, don't you know Hawkins is an untouchable superstar? And I thought it quite interesting that when Taylor went back he spent a lot of time on Kersten.

Listen, does Taylor want us to all chip in and buy him a bloody belt for his shorts, or what? The bloke is a perpetual moon hanger and needs someone to offer up another option to him.

Nah, Tabs was far worse than McCarthy and Kersten a part from the one game he kicked a couple of goals. He isn't the answer.

The problem is a complete lack of forward structure and that comes down to the coach. You can't have that many unpressured forward entries with no one forward of the footy or in a position to lead and make a contest rather than competing against 2 or 3 opponents and expect to kick a lot of goals. The effort and enthusiasm shown by the kids was great to see and helped cover the cracks but when they tire we're back to square one.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

It's his job to organise a functioning forwardline.
